Los Angeles Rams vs New Orleans Saints Offense Analysis
Both of these offenses are two of the most explosive in the NFL this season with the Saints ranking 3rd in scoring and the Rams ranking 2nd in scorings. How do these units match-up with the opposing team’s defenses? This article will the Rams vs New Orleans Saints Offense as we will start with the New Orleans Saints.
New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints rank 3rd in scoring with 30.82 points per game and are averaging 32.56 points per game at home, but in their last three games at home they are only averaging 21.67, so as explosive as the offense has looked at the beginning of the season they have cooled off considerably in recent weeks. The Saints rank 6th in the NFL in rushing yards per game with 127.18. The two headed monster known as Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram have been a force to reckon with these last two years and although neither has over 1,000 yards rushing on the season mostly due to Ingram’s suspension at the beginning of the season they still remain the best running back duo in the NFL. Mark Ingram has 645 rushing yards on the season along with 6 touchdowns. Alvin Kamara has 883 rushing yards on the season and 14 touchdowns.
This week they will be going against a defense that ranks 20th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game with 118.06 and just came off a game in which they held the NFL’s leading rusher, Ezekiel Elliott, to 47 yards on 20 carries. It will be interesting to see if they are able to do the same things against the Saints this week. One year after what many consider to be a down year for Drew Brees the saints rank 10th in the NFL in passing yards per game with 254.41 yards. Drew Brees has been a force and if it wasn’t for the season Patrick Mahomes is having he would be the runaway favorite for the NFL MVP. Drew Brees has 3,992 yards for 32 touchdowns and 5 interceptions on the season. Michael Thomas has had a monster season and the best season of his young career with 125 receptions for 1,405 yards and 9 touchdowns and broke Joe Horn’s franchise season record for receiving yards this season. This week they will be going up against the Rams whom rank 16th in the NFL in terms of passing yards allowed per game with 237.53. Drew Brees did have a monster game against the Rams in week 9 going for 25/36 for 346 yards and 4 touchdowns. If Brees is able to do that again the Saints will win this game easily at home.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams ranks 2nd in the NFL in terms of points per game with 32.76 points per game and are averaging 27.5 points on the road. They aren’t as explosive on the road this season, but are still averaging close to four touchdowns per game on the road and have only had one bad game offensively on the road which came against the Chicago Bears in week 14 in which they were held to 6 points. The Los Angeles Rams have the 3rd ranked rushing offense in the NFL after averaging 147.29 rushing yards per game and are coming off a game in which Todd Gurley and CJ Anderson rushed for 238 yards and 3 touchdowns against the 7th best rush defense in the NFL.
This week they will be going against the 2nd best rush defense that held Todd Gurley to 68 yards rushing and a touchdown in week 9 of the season. Jared Goff started the season off strong, but has since started to come back to his means, still the Rams rank 5th in the NFL in passing yards per game with an average of 275.94 yards per game. Jared Goff leads the team in passing with 4,688 yards for 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
The Rams also had two receivers with over 1,000 yards receiving in Robert Woods who had 86 receptions for 1,219 yards and 6 touchdowns and Brandin Cooks who had 80 receptions for 1,204 yards and 5 touchdowns. This week they will be going against the Saints who rank 29th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game with 264.82. I look for Goff to be the key factor in the decision of the outcome of this game because if he struggles then the Saints win this game easily, but if he posts a big game I see the Rams being able to handle business on the road and make the Super Bowl.
