NFL Draft 2020: Which Safety will get drafted first?
Pickswise betting pick for which Safety will get drafted first, plus a look at where you can bet on which Safety will get picked first. Let’s take a look at a player who separates himself from the rest of the core and will be drafted first.
Xavier McKinney, Alabama
The perfect Safety is a player who has the best vision in the game, someone who can quickly and accurately determine whether the play is a pass or run and make the perfect first move to stop that play. The safety position is the gatekeeper of the defense and should not allow any type of big plays. More than any other position on the defensive side, they have to continually move toward the ball and cover the most ground throughout the game. Xavier McKinney has those traits and is easily the best safety prospect heading into this draft. Let’s take a look at his collegiate stats and see how those traits turned him into one of the best safeties in the country.
As a freshman, McKinney played mostly as a reserve and on special teams and finished the 2017 season with eight tackles. However, he finally broke through in his sophomore year and did not disappoint – he finished with 73 tackles (with six for loss), three sacks, two interceptions, and ten pass breakups. He was awarded the Defensive MVP of the Orange Bowl and helped send the Tide to the national championship game. McKinney improved his game as a Junior, starting every game and finished with 95 tackles (with 5.5 for loss), three sacks, three interceptions, and a blocked kick. McKinney was a second-team Associated Press All-American and first-team All-SEC pick.
I can only see one safety drafted in the first round, and his name is Xavier McKinney. There are loads of teams in the first round who could use McKinney, but it will be interesting to see where he lands. I could see him getting drafted as early as the 18th pick with the Miami Dolphins, however, with loads of other talents in the draft, he could drop near the back of the first round. Here are a couple of teams who should be keeping an eye on McKinney throughout the draft: Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, and Dallas Cowboys. Without a doubt, McKinney will be the first Safety taken off the board.
