New York Rangers -1.5 over Washington Capitals (+102)

The Capitals played about as well as they could in Game 1 and still lost 4-1. It is no indictment on the Capitals. The Rangers are just that good. Unless the Rangers take their foot off the gas or lose any sense of urgency, they are the deeper, more complete team and should take care of business.

The Rangers entered the playoffs in solid form as they were winners of 10 of their last 13 games to secure the Presidents’ Trophy. They also have 5 wins in their last 6 played at home. New York also has Washington’s number, particularly over the last couple of seasons with 5 wins in the last 7 played head-to-head. The Rangers are the more reliable play tonight.

Winnipeg Jets ML over Colorado Avalanche & Over 6 (+232)

With a 13-goal first game, overs trends were only reinforced. The over has hit in 7 of Colorado’s last 8 games and in 4 of their last 5 on the road. The total has also gone over in 5 of Winnipeg’s last 6 games and in their last 5 at home. Head to head, the over has hit in 9 of the last 13 played. This pure matchup bodes very well for offense and plenty of goals.

This Jets team is absolutely rolling. Their Game 1 victory gave Winnipeg their 9th consecutive win, as well as their 4th straight win over Colorado. The Avalanche have yet to beat the Jets in the 2023-24 season as the Jets have won all 4 games by a combined score of 24-10. Until trends change even a little bit head to head, the Jets have not given any reason to fade them.

Vancouver Canucks ML over Nashville Predators (-162)

This is another game with a clear hot hand in terms of the head-to-head matchup. The Canucks have won 5 straight against the Predators by a combined score of 21-11. That is an average final of 4.2-2.2. The Canucks had a bit of a rollercoaster of a final month. But they are a very good, deep team that has had the Preds’ number, specifically.

Including Game 1, the Predators have 4 wins in their last 11 games. Nashville has also dropped 5 of their last 7 played on the road. None of this is to say the Predators are a bad team. They are a very good team. But they have not shown enough consistency lately to take them over this Canucks team that is in good form and has dominated them.
