Start spreading the news… there is now a 6th sports betting operator in New York as PointsBet Sportsbook has gone live in the Empire State.
New Yorkers have been able to bet on sports online since January 8, when Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel and BetRivers began operating, followed by BetMGM’s launch on January 17.
Now PointsBet has joined the party, with Group CEO Sam Swanell saying: “This marks a momentous day for PointsBet in officially launching within the state of New York, poised to be one of the largest markets in the United States.”

How PointsBetting works
For example, on Sunday’s AFC Championship Game between the Bengals and Chiefs, let’s say the Total line for PointsBetting is 54-56. If you picked over 56 and the game produces a higher total, you would win your unit stake multiplied by each point the game goes over by. For example, if the Chiefs win 37-27, the total is 64 points and you would win 8 times your unit stake (64-56=8). However, if the game ended 23-16, the total would be 39 and you would lose 17 times your stake (56-39=17).
Some markets are far more volatile than others, for example, Joe Burrow passing yards (which is 283-293 at time of writing), whereas total touchdowns (6-6.6) is generally less risky.
