Tuesday night in the NHL brings us an intra-conference matchup between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Seattle Kraken. These teams have yet to meet this season, as this will be the first of two meetings this year. Both have just seven wins in 14-15 games this season, so they are in need of lots more if they want to be relevant. To get you set for the action, here is our Blue Jackets vs. Kraken prediction.

With the inconsistency these teams have shown all season with a combined record of 14-11-4, it is hard to gauge who will take this game. One thing I expect to see is their mediocre offenses continue. Starting with the Kraken, they are averaging just 2.6 goals per game, which is fourth-worst. The Blue Jackets have been better, but their 3.1 goals per game average is middling at best. Seattle also boasts the league’s third-lowest shot total (378), and between the two teams there is just one player who averages over a point-per-game (Kirill Marchenko). These are just two bland teams who do not drive much offense, and even though this should be an equal battle, I expect it to stay dry yet again. Let’s take the under on Tuesday.

The Winnipeg Jets are in Vancouver to take on the Canucks on Tuesday night. Winnipeg’s offense is going through a rough patch right now. The Jets have scored just 2 total goals over their last 3 games, all of which have come on the road. However, they could be in a solid position to get things back on track offensively in this one. The Canucks rank 26th in the NHL allowing 3.41 goals per game so far this season. They’ve gotten inconsistent goaltending and have been giving up way too many prime scoring chances. Winnipeg is in a rough patch, but they are far too talented to stay down for long.

Offensively, the Canucks sure are happy to have Quinn Hughes back in the lineup. Hughes is among the best defensemen in the league, and most of Vancouver’s scoring attack goes through him. Hughes has 3 points in 4 games since returning from an injury, and the Canucks have scored 15 total goals over that span. Winnipeg is a stout defensive team with an all-world goaltender in Connor Hellebuyck, but with Hughes in the mix, Vancouver should be able to find some scoring success. Look to the over in this one.

The Utah Mammoth are happy to return back to home ice after playing 8 of their last 9 games on the road. They posted a 1-3-0 record during their most recent 4-game road trip, ending the trip with a 3 straight losses to the Maple Leafs, Canadiens, and Senators. The Mammoth have been a much better team at home so far this season, owning a 4-1-0 record at Delta Center as opposed to a 5-6-0 record away from Utah. Looking to get back into the win column, Utah should feel good about its chances when going up against a Buffalo team that is 0-3-2 on the road this season. The Sabres have lost 5 of their last 6 games, and have a tough task going up against the Mammoth on the road in this one.

The Mammoth have an exciting young core of forwards who are performing at strong levels so far this season. A total of 6 players are already into double-digit points including Clayton Keller, Nick Schmaltz, Logan Cooley, and Dylan Guenther. JJ Peterka has also been a nice addition to Utah’s forward group, as he has 10 points through 16 games and is set to go up against his former team for the first time. It’s also worth noting that the Sabres will be playing without No. 1 defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. Playing at home, back the Mammoth in regulation time.

The over has been rolling for both teams. The total has gone over in 4 out of the Stars’ last 5 games, as well as in 6 out of the Senators’ last 8 games. Dallas has been scoring at a decent clip lately which has been their primary driver behind high games totals. For Ottawa, it has been a combination of decent goal scoring and subpar goal prevention that has driven their game totals.

Dallas enters this game with 4+ goals scored in 3 out of their last 4 games, and having either scored or allowed 4+ goals in 4 out of their last 5. Their average game total during that 5-game span is 7.6 goals, and their record was 3-1-1. High totals have been trending in Stars games whether win or lose, home or road. It’s similar for Ottawa as their game totals have averaged 7.07 goals this year. They have either scored or allowed 4+ goals in 6 out of their last 8 games with 3 of those games having scored or allowed 7 goals. The pure matchup and recent trends bode well for another high-scoring game.

The Los Angeles Kings continue their 6-game road trip with a matchup against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night. Los Angeles is looking to start the trip with a 2-0 record after defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Sunday. The Kings have been great at preventing goals on the road all season long. They rank 10th in the NHL allowing just 2.67 goals per game on the road. Montreal has been scoring goals in bunches lately, but the Kings have a strong defensive structure that should be able to give the Canadiens some trouble. Montreal can be a little too reliant on the power play at times, so if Los Angeles can remain disciplined and stay out of the penalty box, they should be able to stymie Montreal’s offensive attack.

Offensively, the Kings have had an up-and-down start to the 2025 campaign. They rank 25th in the league scoring 2.75 goals per game, with their power play converting at just a 17.7% clip. The Canadiens have had their struggles defensively, but the good news is that the goaltending has been much better as of late. Jakub Dobes has filled in nicely for the struggling Sam Montembeault, but the ladder seems to be getting back on track. Look to the under in this one.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be travelling to Boston with hopes to seek some revenge and put an end to their current two-game losing streak. The Leafs defensive play has been horrible this year, as they are second last in the NHL allowing 3.75 goals per game. They have been out-scoring their mistakes to an extent as they are averaging 3.69 goals for per game, which is fifth-best in the league. They have been playing in a lot of high-scoring games, 14 of their 16 games played have gone over the game total, including their last 11 games. On Saturday night these two teams played to a final score of 5-3.

Similar to the Leafs, the Bruins have also been scoring and getting scored on a lot. They are averaging 3.29 goals for per game and 3.29 goals against per game. With the top end scoring talent playing in this game, I think we should be in for another high-scoring affair. Auston Matthews, William Nylander, John Tavares and David Pastrnak have the ability to score multiple goals each if needed. I will be taking the over in this one.

The Capitals and Hurricanes have been trending in opposite directions recently. Washington enters this game having dropped 6 out of their last 7 games and the Capitals have just 1 win in their last 5 road games as well. Meanwhile, Carolina has won 4 consecutive games as part of 5 wins in their last 6 games. 

In the aforementioned 5 wins in their last 6 games, the Hurricanes beat the Islanders, Rangers, Wild, Sabres, and Maple Leafs by an average of 2.4 goals per contest. Those are not easy teams to dominate and that’s exactly what Carolina has been doing. Head to head, the Hurricanes have the Capitals’ number over the years too. Carolina is 7-2-1 in the last 10 played against Washington, and they have beat the Caps in the last 5 straight played at home. Current form and trends bode well for the Hurricanes to stay hot in this one. We’ll back Carolina to win in regulation on Tuesday.

The St. Louis Blues have arguably been the most disappointing team in the NHL so far in 2025. They enter this contest against the Calgary Flames with a 5-8-3 record on the season, and lost 7 straight games to end the month of October. However, the good news is that the Flames have been struggling even more. Calgary is just 4-11-2 on the season, and simply hasn’t been able to put the puck in the back of the net. Calgary ranks dead last in the NHL scoring a measly 2.06 goals per game, with their power play also ranking dead last with a conversion rate of 11.7%. The Blues are allowing a league-high 3.88 goals per game, but this seems to be a favorable matchup for Jim Montgomery’s team.

It also helps that the Blues are on home ice in this one, as the Flames are just 2-7-1 on the road this season. The Blues have also dominated this series in recent memory, winning 7 straight matchups and 9 of the last 10 going back to 2022. Make it a small play, but consider backing the Blues on home ice in this one.

The Minnesota Wild will be hosting the streaking San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night. The Sharks come into this game riding a three-game winning streak, and they are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. The Wild are riding a two-game winning streak of their own. Kirill Kaprizov has been hot lately with a five-game point streak. He has six points in those five games. When he is rolling, there aren’t many who are better than him in the NHL. The Wild are in for a tough task going up against young phenom Macklin Celebrini. He has been on fire to start the season with 24 points in 16 games. If the Wild can shut down the Celebrini line, they should be just fine in this game. Outside of that line, the Sharks do not have many offensive weapons.

The Wild have one of the most lethal powerplay units in the league. It is currently operating at 29.0%, which is good for fourth-best in the NHL. Look for them to take advantage of any opportunities against a Sharks penalty kill that is not great. It is only working at 75.5% on the year. I think the veteran lineup of the Wild will be able to shut down the young stars on home ice. Give me the Wild on the money line.
