Look, we get it, UMass or Mizzou in a blind taste test will always end in the market salivating over the Tigers. But here’s the thing, Missouri has all the brand appeal and market clout. The Minutemen do not. Backing the undefeated Tigers here againt the winless Minutemen almost assuredly causes the backer to pay a premium to back the side with the M on their helmet.

Then there is the number itself – 44.5. Once you get outside of the first couple weeks of college football, teams that are priced in this range have a much higher chance of covering because the markets have gotten tighter and adjustments have been made. Missouri has a week off after this and then hosts Alabama in Columbia, there is a prospect of the Tigers being ranked, undefeated, and an extra week to prepare for the Tide which is an enormous prospect given this their best chance to finally beat them. Mizzou may carry on to the CFP from here and they look every bit the part, but this is too many points. Even if the Tigers smoke the Minutemen and get up big, a number of this nature presents backdoor peril for those laying this lumber. Grab the points.
