New York Mets vs Chicago Cubs Prediction, Odds and Picks for Wednesday, 09/24/25

The New York Mets escaped with a win last night against the Cubs, sliding back into the final NL wild-card spot with 5 games remaining. Tonight, the Mets are hoping to secure another much-needed win as they send the rookie Jonah Tong to the mound. He is 2-2 with a 5.94 ERA. 

For the Cubs, left-hander Matthew Boyd will get the nod. He comes in with a 13-8 record and a 3.20 ERA. Boyd hasn’t looked like himself of late, going 1-2 with a 6.49 ERA in his last 5 outings. The Cubs have now dropped 5 in a row, and the last thing they want is to be ice cold heading into the postseason. This is a must win for New York and it could go either way, but I expect both starters to give up their fair share of runs. Offensively, the Mets are averaging 5.4 runs per game in their last 10 compared to the Cubs’ 3.8. Look for both teams to score early in this one, making the over my best bet of the day.
