Geno Smith opened his Raiders tenure with 362 passing yards, 24 completions on 34 attempts, and a QBR rating of 102.8. Smith is enjoying the Chip Kelly experience that features plenty of deep balls and play-action. Jakobi Meyers had a field day just days before requesting a trade — a request that got denied quickly. Heading into Week 2 against the Chargers, I expect similar results from Smith regarding completions, since the Chargers play heavy zone, which led to Mahomes completing 24 passes in Week 1.
The Chargers held the Chiefs and Mahomes to 6 points in the first half and plenty of 3-and-out drives. But in the 2nd half, Mahomes was able to pepper his receivers, mostly Hollywood Brown, and drive down the field for chances to win the game, coming from the Chargers’ plan to sit back and not blitz.
