Ah, a very challenging past couple of days, but there’s a certain series finale in Kansas City today where the Royals host the Milwaukee Brewers that can wiggle out of this recent funk. Let’s get into my best bet for this interleague matchup.

MLB Over/Under best bet: Brewers vs Royals Under 8 (-125 at BetRivers)

What a delightful pitching matchup is on tap to structure this third affair between the two former American League Central rivals (Brewers moved to the National League in 1998). In fact, these are two of my favorite left-handers in the game today, Kyle Harrison and Kris Bubic. The latter was one of my personal top sleepers last year and someone I’ve always been into since he first debuted six years ago. Bubic delivered on my forecast of his notable talents, as he even made his first career All-Star team last season – his first full campaign back since 2022 after enduring Tommy John surgery.

Unfortunately, the former first-round pick’s season was cut short due to injury (non-related to his previous elbow predicament), but he’s come out of the chute hot after firing six innings of one-run ball and scattered just five baserunners in KC’s home opener on Monday. That tells me Bubic is already past any potential rust that could come from missing nearly the entire second half of 2025. Rather he’s resuming from where he left off in his coming-out year.

Harrison is another southpaw on the verge of a breakout similar to what Bubic experienced one year ago. He was also labeled as one of my top sleepers entering the new campaign. So far so good for the 24-year-old after stifling the Tampa Bay Rays in his team debut earlier this week. Harrison notched 5 effective innings in which he yielded 1 run and struck out 8. The former San Francisco Giants farmhand has received starts in each of the prior three season – including a pair with the Boston Red Sox last year after being traded – but hasn’t really been given the opportunity to stick. Now that he’s getting that opportunity across a full season, I believe Harrison will thrive.

This next assignment for both starters presents a reasonable spot for them to contribute some of their usual quality work. Both offenses have gotten out to a slow start opposite left-handed pitching, hitting below .230 in that department. Additionally, the Brewers’ (.333) and Royals’ (.308) team OPS against southpaws sis them in the bottom half of baseball. I’m opting to buy a half run to get the total at 8. Strong starting pitching from each side will dictate a lower-scoring affair that only has a ceiling of a 5-3/6-2 outcome.
