NHL best bet: Avalanche -1.5 (+120) over Capitals

The results for both the Capitals and Avalanche have been a bit uncharacteristic lately. Washington has 6 wins in their last 19 games, and they enter this game with 3 losses in their last 4 games. Things have not gone much better on the road as they have dropped 7 out of their last 9 road games. With that, the Capitals have fallen outside of the playoff picture with every other contender having games in hand at the moment. Given their play over the last month, the Capitals have their hands full in this one.

The Avalanche make for a difficult matchup for any team in the NHL. That is especially true if the game is played in Colorado. The Capitals will be no exception, especially as inconsistent as they have played. Bizarrely, the Avalanche enter this game winless in their last two games. Earlier this month after they lost consecutive games, they won their next 2 with a combined score of 12-2. The Avalanche have an extra day of rest on the Capitals, are an insane 19-1-3 at home with a +55 goal differential, and will play with added urgency to get back in the win column.

NHL best bet: Wild vs Maple Leafs Over 6.5 (+114)

High totals have been rolling for both teams lately. The over has hit in 10 out of Minnesota’s last 11 games, as well as in 8 out of their last 9 games on the road. The total has also gone over in 4 out of Toronto’s last 5 games. In their respective last 10 games, the over is 15-5 in those combined 20 games, including 7-4 combining Wild road games with Maple Leafs home games. They both also have positive overs records on the season overall, at home, and on the road.

The overs have been hitting for different reasons for these teams. Minnesota’s reason is less favorable. The Wild have dropped 5 out of their last 7 games, having allowed 30 goals over that span for an average of 4.28 goals allowed per game. The Maple Leafs are 9-1-3 in their last 13 games with an average of 4.07 goals scored per game during that span. The pure matchup of Toronto’s hot goal scoring against Minnesota’s cold goal prevention bodes well for the over. The case is especially true with this game being played in Toronto where the Leafs have been playing great. It only helps that the Wild have been prone to scoring in bunches, and the Leafs have been prone to allowing goals in bunches. The over has a great look in this one.

NHL best bet: Golden Knights -1.5 (+120) over Flyers

The Flyers and Golden Knights have gone in very different directions in the past couple of weeks. Philadelphia has dropped 6 straight games and got bullied in just about all of them. During their current 6-game losing streak, the Flyers have been outscored by a combined 34-12. That is an average loss by a score of 5.67-2.0. When a team is that cold and it feels like nothing is going right, it is tough to break out of these slumps. It will be made even more difficult facing a red-hot team like the Golden Knights.

After a losing streak of their own, Vegas enters this game on a 7-game winning streak. They have won 4 games at home during that streak, which gives them a 12-6-6 home record on the year to Philadelphia’s 10-9-3 road record. During their winning streak, Vegas has outscored opponents 36-19 for an average win of 5.14-2.71. The Golden Knights are a tough fade right now, especially against an opponent spiraling like the Flyers. Even for a puck line, this plus-money is decent value given how badly Vegas is beating teams and how bad Philadelphia is getting beaten.
