Wednesday night in the NHL brings a small 4-game slate, but includes a couple of intriguing games being broadcast on TNT, truTV and HBO MAX. Each of the 4 games has implications on the playoff picture in both conferences as the 2nd half of the season progresses. This slate is a great way to break up the week. If you will be tuning in and want to have some action, here are my NHL best bets that may be worth considering — with lines and odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook at the time of writing. NHL best bet: Flyers vs Sabres Over 6.5 (+105)
This is the 3rd game played between these teams this year. The Flyers won the first matchup by a score of 5-2, while the Sabres won the 2nd matchup by a score of 5-3. With that, the over has hit in the last 5 played head-to-head and is 8-1-1 in the last 10 between these teams. High totals have also been prominent for both teams lately, as well as against one another.
The total has gone over 5 out of Philadelphia’s last 7 games, and in 5 of their last 7 games on the road, too. The over has also hit in 4 out of Buffalo’s last 5 games. For the Flyers, the high game totals have primarily been due to volatility on both sides of the puck. They have allowed 12 goals in their last 2 games, following a stretch in which they either scored or allowed 5+ goals in 4 consecutive games the week prior. Meanwhile, the Sabres have been absolutely rolling, and it is their 4+ goals scored in 6 of their last 8 leading to the overs. In the other 2 games, Buffalo allowed 9 total goals. The pure matchup and range of outcomes bodes well for another over.

NHL best bet: Senators ML over Rangers (-115)
It has not been a particularly smooth season for either the Senators or Rangers. Recent results have been no exception. It looks a bit worse for the Rangers than for the Senators. New York enters this game at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and with the 5th-worst point percentage in the NHL. They have lost 4 straight games by a whopping combined 22-8. With that, the Rangers have dropped 7 of their last 8, with their average loss being by 4.71-1.86.
Granted, that average for the Rangers is a bit skewed by a brutal 10-2 loss. While that is an outlier, it is a bit representative of how poorly the Rangers have played lately. They do not have a home-ice advantage in this one as they are the 2nd-worst home team in the league. The Rangers are 5-12-4 with a -24 goal differential at Madison Square Garden. While the Senators have not been stellar themselves lately, they have 3 wins in their last 7 games to New York’s 3 wins in their last 11. Ottawa collected a much-needed win on Tuesday and should come out looking to build the momentum and get back in the playoff race.

NHL best bet: Golden Knights vs Kings Over 5.5 (-120)
The over has been rolling in both Golden Knights and Kings games. The over has hit in 9 of Vegas’ last 12 games and in 5 of their last 6 games on the road. The total has also gone over in 8 of Los Angeles’ 9 games, as well as in 5 of their last 6 played at home. Head-to-head, the results reinforce high totals trends as the over has hit in the last 5 played, including a 6-5 Kings win earlier this year.
In their respective last 10 games, the over is 15-3-2 in those combined 20 games. During that span, combining Golden Knights road games and Kings home games, the over is 8-3. The combined team records in those 20 games are 9-8-3 overall, 6-5-2 at home and 3-3-1 on the road. It has not mattered whether these teams win or lose, or are at home or on the road. The combination of strong goal scoring and lapses in goal prevention has made for high-scoring affairs. For those more bullish, the alternate total of 6.5 has nice +125 value.
