Entering this Stanley Cup Finals rematch, there were not many hockey fans, if any, that expected this series to be a quick one. After 2 games played, those expectations appear as though they will be met. Both games played have gone beyond regulation, illustrating the slim margin of error between these teams. As the series heads south to Florida for Game 3, the Panthers look to capitalize on home ice advantage in what is now a best of 5. Meanwhile, the Oilers are focused on exercising their demons against the Panthers. Viewers have been treated to phenomenal hockey so far in this series. Game 3 should bring more of the same. If you will be watching and are interested in having some skin in the game, here are a few picks worth considering both individually and as a same-game parlay at +525. You can also get our NHL picks for this matchup and every game throughout the Stanley Cup Finals.

Florida Panthers ML over the Edmonton Oilers (-135)

This could easily be a 2-0 series in either direction. Nonetheless, both teams have shown resilience. The Panthers’ Game 2 bounce back looks to give them a bit of an upper hand going into Monday’s Game 3. Florida has had a 3rd period lead at some point in both games so far. In Game 1, they could not overcome Edmonton’s comeback. In Game 2, even after blowing the lead for a second consecutive game, the Panthers had a short memory and bounced back for a win. With that split Edmonton, the Panthers can now play a little more free than they otherwise would have if they were going home down 0-2.

The Panthers have been just okay at home this postseason. Even considering, they would rather be at home as games increase in importance. Home-ice is ultimately an advantage for both teams in this series. The Panthers have won 14 out of their last 19 games at home as part of what is now a 31-15-2 record on home ice between the regular season and playoffs.  They have also won 5 out of the last 6 played head to head against the Oilers in Florida, and in general have won 9 out of their last 12 games. Given the track record of this Panthers team over 3 years now, how they have looked in this series, and the momentum coming back to home ice, Florida has appeal in this one.

Over 6.5 (-102)

Another game played between the Panthers and Oilers, another game total over hit. Both of these teams have shown a strength of being able to smother opponents and limit high-percentage chances. Add to that, both teams have very good goaltending. Despite those team strengths, the game totals continue to climb between the Oilers and Panthers. Friday’s 5-4 final score was the 4th over in the respective last 5 games played for both the Oilers and Panthers. It was also the 8th over in the last 9 games played head to head. The offensive firepower on both teams continues to bring game total overs with no indication of reversing that trend.

We hit our +500 Game 2 Same-Game Parlay and the over 6.5 (+105) was a key component. The reasoning was similar and the outcome only reinforced the totals trends to ride. There have not been many backdoor overs or empty net saviors for the overs. These games have seen stellar offensive performances, power play goals, and star players playing and producing like star players. All of those factors and more have led to overs hitting, and hitting with authority. Until or unless either team shows any remote change in trends, the overs have been the pick to ride in Oilers-Panthers games.

Sam Reinhart anytime goalscorer (+195)

It is somewhat surprising that through 2 Stanley Cup Finals games, the Panthers have scored 8 goals and Sam Reinhart has no points and is -3. The glass half-full is he has logged 9 shots on goal and an average of 29:53 of ice-time per game. The shot total is 2nd most on the team and the ice-time is the most among Panthers forwards. If there is any lingering effect from Reinhart’s 3rd round leg injury, it does not show. His lack of production is not an indication of his play. This is a good player that will play a key role in the outcome of this series, regardless of what that outcome is. It is only a matter of time.

This year was the 2nd consecutive season that Reinhart led the Panthers in both goals and points. In those seasons, Reinhart tallied 57 and 39 goals, and 94 and 81 points. That is now 9 times in 10 seasons he has scored over 20 goals. Among those, he has scored over 30 goals in 4 consecutive seasons. If there is anyone on this Panthers team who can score at any time, especially in a high-scoring game and series, it is Sam Reinhart. To no surprise, Reinhart is on the Panthers’ top line and top power play. At any time, he shares the ice with some combination of Aleksander Barkov, Carter Verhaeghe, Matthew Tkachuk, Aaron Ekblad, and Evan Rodrigues. The matchup between these teams bodes well for high scores, as mentioned, and in the case of another high score, Panthers’ star Sam Reinhart should have as good of a chance as anyone to get on the board.
