Atlanta Hawks vs Cleveland Cavaliers Predictions
Pickswise's Expert Predictions & Analysis
Point Spread Prediction
Atlanta has won two of its past three games. The Hawks won and covered against Boston and Denver, two teams that look destined for the playoffs so maybe they have found something, or more likely they caught those teams in tough spots. Atlanta is still missing wing De’Andre Hunter, a critical piece of what they do on offense and defense. Trae Young is on a heater, with 31+ in three straight games.
Cleveland has lost 10 in a row. The Cavaliers have not even covered a single one of those games, either, as this season has gone from interesting to terrible. They are sitting out center Andre Drummond right now because they want to trade him, which is kind of tough to swallow. He is third in the league in rebounding even if it might not have been leading to a ton of wins for the team. Guard Collin Sexton is an exciting scorer and a fun foil for Young.
At some point the Cavs are going to trade Drummond, and at some point they will win and/or cover a game–but I will be fading them until that happens. Atlanta is far from elite, but in games when they get their offense going they can really bury a team. Young has some help on the scoring side, but often Sexton seems all alone out there. In February, all of their ATS wins have been by more than this margin. They can add another here. Take Atlanta
Game Totals Prediction
While the Cavs have been losing again and again, their totals have been streaky. During one stretch they posted four straight overs, and they have currently gone under in three straight. Knowing what we do about this team, those unders seem more indicative of what to expect. There is not just not enough scoring on this team and Drummond was one of the few players who could get some easy buckets. Even if Sexton is hot, there is not much around him. I think Atlanta could score 120 in this one and it still might go under. Cleveland has scored over 105 points only three times in their last 10 games. Fading their scoring looks like the smart play. Take the under.
Computer Model Picks & Projections
The Pickswise supercomputer creates pre-game probabilities using machine learning techniques as inputs to a Monte Carlo approach. This means we simulate a sporting event 10,000 times, catering for the deep range of outcomes and probabilities within a given event. We first predict the performance of each individual player based on hundreds of algorithmic variabilities which we use to run our event simulations. The probabilities themselves are dynamic in nature and are updated as new information such as team news, weather conditions, and movement within betting markets become available. We consider a value bet as one which identifies a discrepancy between our projections and the prevailing betting markets. The ability to consistently identify anomalies between our consolidated projections and sportsbook odds provides you with an increased chance of being a successful gambler and having longterm success.
