MONEY LINE PICK

The Pittsburgh Penguins picked up a win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night to improve to 4-1 against the Capitals this season. Pittsburgh only had two power play opportunities in the game, but Evgeni Malkin was able to cash in on one of them for the first goal of the game. Sidney Crosby played his 1,000th game last weekend but has showed no signs of slowing down. Crosby leads the team in both goals and assists and has the Penguins in a playoff spot in the East Division. There’s been plenty of rumors swirling of the 33-year-old being traded but the fact of the matter is, Pittsburgh is playing great hockey right now and with the playoffs in their reach, Crosby is going nowhere. Take the Penguins in this one.

The Capitals have been very inconsistent this season and that would explain their record against the Penguins. Their offense has been shaky and often relies on Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin a little too much. Goaltender Tristan Jarry continued his stellar play for Pittsburgh by making a number of huge saves late in Tuesday’s game to keep the Penguins in it. Jarry is now 4-1 in his last five games with a .932 save percentage in those games. Take Pittsburgh who has won three straight and four out of their last five to stay hot and come away with two points in this one.

GAME TOTALS PICK

The over has hit in three out of their five matchups this season with an average of 6.8 goals per game. There are only four teams in the NHL that are averaging over three goals while also allowing an average of over three goals per game, this game features two of them. These two teams are a combined 20-15 to the over this season and coming off of their intense overtime game on Tuesday night, expect a lot of goals in this one. The Capitals showed how physical they can be as they outhit the Penguins 31-15 in their previous matchup. One area to watch in this one is Washington’s ability to create high-danger scoring chances in 5-on-5 situations going up against Pittsburgh who is allowing a ton of them. As every hockey fan knows, a game featuring Crosby and Ovechkin is bound to produce some exciting offense. Take the over 6.5 in this big East Division battle.
