After winning their first two games, Hull have failed to win their last four in all competitions, most recently losing 2-1 at Newcastle.
Everton are still unbeaten, defeating Ipswich 1-0 at home in their last match. Games like this one at the MKM Stadium are what the Toffees need to target if they are to finish higher than 10th for the first time since 2018-19.
It is hardly a secret that David Moyes has a thin squad, but it includes some excellent individuals and few passengers.
While the Toffees toiled in the transfer market, Hull went big, targeting good players at smaller clubs in Europe's top five leagues, or acquiring the bigger names from the continent's less-vaunted divisions.
Sergej Jakirovic has made a decent fist of working out his best combinations. However, the Tigers may lack the attacking penetration to unsettle an Everton defensive unit that, despite rotating personnel, kept three straight clean sheets in all competitions before the international break.
This is unlikely to be a classic, but Moyes is a fine coach with a good side capable of taking all three points back to Merseyside.
