The Canadiens have been inconsistent of late, posting a 3-4-0 record in their last 7 games. Following their dominant start to the season, they have yet to regain their consistent winning ways. While New York is on a 3-game losing streak (0-1-2), I expect it to return to the win column in this game. Two of those 3 losses were in overtime against elite NHL teams in the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights, and earlier in the month they took down another one of the best in the Dallas Stars. They are playing well, and at Madison Square Garden on a Saturday night the building will be rocking and the team will be filled with energy. The Rangers have also not played since Wednesday, so they should be fully rested and ready to continue their efforts in climbing an extremely competitive Metropolitan Division. These division foes have met just once this season, as this is the second of 4 and kicks off a back-to-back, home-and-home series. These teams are just 4 points from each other, with Carolina leading the division and Philadelphia with one game in hand. There should be no shortage of effort, but I am siding with the Hurricanes. The Jets are just 4 points from a playoff spot but also 4 points from last in the NHL. These will be 2 tough points to earn, even on home ice.

Following a 2-game losing streak for Tampa Bay in which it was shut out twice, it has exploded in2 straight wins — scoring 14 goals. Tampa Bay has also lost to these Islanders twice in the span of a week earlier in the month, scoring just one goal. Even as the road team, I expect them to come into this game with a vengeance, and look to absolutely stomp their Islanders for some payback. This is needed by Tampa Bay, as their lead in the Atlantic Division is almost nonexistent with the Boston Bruins (tied with 38 points) and Detroit Red Wings (37 points) looking to strike. New York is on home ice and has been strong with five wins in six games, but I see them taking a loss to a hungry and red-hot opponent, who I also see as deeper with more elite NHL talent. For this Lightning vs Islanders prediction, I’m going with Tampa Bay on the money line.
