2018 NFL Season: Houston Texans Betting Recap

The Houston Texans season was the tale of two seasons with the team getting out to a slow start but turning it on late to make the playoffs. The Texans lost the first three games of the season including a loss against the New York Giants and people really started to question Deshaun Watson and the rest of the team. The team then reeled off eight straight wins and then there were questions if the team could make a run at the Super Bowl. Once the playoffs came around though the offense struggled scoring only seven points against the Colts and that led to a defeat. For bettors, it doesn’t matter the wins and losses, only the covers so let’s breakdown the Houston Texans Betting Recap.

Texans Against The Spread

Even though the Texans were 11-5 straight up, they weren’t great against the spread. They were 7-8-1 against the spread throughout the regular season. At home they were 4-4 against the spread while on the road they were 3-4-1 against the spread. On grass they were 2-3 against the spread while on turf they were 5-5-1. Even though they had success winning games this isn’t a team you wanted to back with your money.

Texas Over Under

If you backed the Texans game with the under, they made you a little bit of money. The over was the play in seven of their games last season while the under was the play in the other nine games. At home the under was the play five times while the over was the play three times. On the road the over was the play in four games and the under was the play in four games.

On turf the over was the play two times while the under was the play three times. On turf the over was the play five times while the under was the play six times.  The average total in the Texans game was 44.9

Next years odds

The expectations for next season seem to be that this team will be a middle of the road team and right now their odds to win the Super Bowl are 40/1.

The odds to win the AFC Championship currently sit at 15/1 which puts them right behind the up and coming Cleveland Browns. The Indianapolis Colts, who the Texans lost to in the playoffs and who they will be fighting for an AFC South crown with has the odds of 8/1 to win the AFC which is the 3rd best odds.

Next Years Outlook

The big question for the Texans next season seems to be how will Watson play. Even though Watson took big steps forward this last season he still needs to take bigger steps for the team to make the next step forward and have success in the playoffs.

Watson seemed to disappear against the Colts and that isn’t something that can continue to happen. If Watson can take the next step forward this team could be a dark horse in the AFC and maybe to even win the Super Bowl.
