Wednesday’s slate of MLB action is loaded with both intriguing matchups and interesting betting lines worth diving into. Among the several MLB player prop selections available to choose from, I am looking to back MacKenzie Gore in his matchup with the Houston Astros and Mike Burrows against the San Francisco Giants. Let’s break it down, while you can also check out our expert MLB picks for EVERY GAME today.
Best MLB player prop bet: MacKenzie Gore (WAS) under 2.5 earned runs allowed (-145)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -155 odds.
MacKenzie Gore has had a very productive season for the Washington Nationals in 2025, posting a 3.52 ERA with 144 strikeouts recorded in his 117.2 innings pitched. Gore is a strikeout artist that is capable of removing himself from tough situations by finding that 3rd strike, and his 6.5-K prop assumes he will find some success in that department once again today. Houston is a solid lineup that has produced well against southpaw pitching over the course of the season, but that is why we have Gore at a playable price for under 2.5 earned runs in this spot.
Gore has remained under this 2.5 mark in 15 of his first 21 starts this season, notching a career-best WHIP along the way. This includes 7 of his last 8 road outings, 5 of which resulted in 1 or 0 earned runs allowed. I don’t love the idea of consistently going into Houston and fading the Astros bats with left-handed starting pitching, but if Gore or someone of his caliber is receiving a playable price on a 2.5 line, there is some intrigue regardless of matchup. It is also worth mentioning that 8 of the last 10 southpaw starters to face the Astros have remained under this 2.5 mark.

Best MLB player prop bet: Mike Burrows (PIT) under 2.5 earned runs allowed (-145)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -155 odds.
We’re switching games for our 2nd MLB player prop but staying within the same market as we look for Mike Burrows to remain under 2.5 earned runs allowed. Burrows is set to face the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, marking his 13th appearance and 12th start of his rookie season. Through his first 52 innings as a major leaguer, the right-hander has posted a 4.15 ERA with 53 strikeouts recorded. He has competed with every pitch and shown encouraging signs for Pirates fans, and I look forward to another decent outing from him this afternoon. Burrows had a shaky outing against the Twins on July 12, but outside that start, his current form has been exceptional. His last 2 starts have combined for 11 innings of 2-run ball with 11 strikeouts and only 9 base runners allowed.
Burrows has been showing signs of potential and he now heads to San Francisco to pitch in a pitcher-friendly park against a lineup in poor form. The Giants have fallen on their face since acquiring Rafael Devers, falling to 54-54 by losing 23 of 36 games in that span. They are tied for dead last in runs scored during this stretch of play and that is what I like to see when fading their offense once again. Burrows should find success if he is able to locate and fill up the strike zone early in counts.
