Wednesday’s slate of MLB action is loaded with interesting matchups and intriguing betting angles. My favorite bet on the board for this slate comes in the matchup between the Cincinnati Reds and the Miami Marlins. So with that in mind, let’s dive into my best MLB player prop bet for Wednesday, June 9, while you can also get all of our MLB picks for EVERY GAME today!
Best MLB player prop bet: Andrew Abbott under 2.5 earned runs allowed (-120)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -140 odds. Risking 1u.
Andrew Abbott was ambushed in his last trip to the mound, allowing 3 earned runs within the first inning as he lasted just 3.2 innings total against the Phillies. Philadelphia was able to pounce on him early and often in counts, racking up 9 base hits, including a home run. I expect the Cincinnati southpaw to bounce back nicely in this spot, however, as Abbott draws a far more favorable matchup on paper today. Abbott will face a Miami Marlins lineup that ranks just 21st in wOBA with a 91 wRC+ against left-handed pitching in the last 30 days.
Among the last 18 left-handed starting pitchers to face the Marlins, 14 of them have remained under 2.5 earned runs allowed, including each of the last 3. There are some talented youthful pieces in this lineup, but the Marlins’ offense is not a unit I have steered clear of this season. Abbott has allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in 12 of his 15 starts this season, including 7 of 8 starts made in his home park. Active Marlin batters have just 17 combined plate appearances against Abbott as well, which should favor the pitcher the first time through the order. Outside of Lyon Richardson and Scott Barlow, the Cincinnati bullpen is also well-rested, so the Reds will have no need to overextend Abbott’s leash. All things considered, I find -120 to be a favorable price on this betting angle.
