We are in the final week of the MLB regular season and there are some intriguing matchups as we close out the season. Several playoff races are yet to be determined, and some awards may be up for grabs as well. This article covers my two favorite prop bets for this September 24 slate, so let’s dive in!
Best MLB player prop bet: First 5 innings total under 3.5 (-140)
Odds available at FanDuel sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -145 odds.
Paul Skenes is set to make his final regular season start of 2025 today against the Cincinnati Reds. Skenes has put together a tremendous 2nd season at the major league level. Through his first 181.2 innings of work this season the right-hander has posted a 2.03 ERA 0.96 WHIP with 209 strikeouts along the way. He is looking to get that ERA below 2 with a dazzling start today to close out his season. He faces a Reds lineup that he tossed 6 scoreless frames against earlier this season.
Hunter Greene is set to start this game for the Reds, and I expect a strong outing from him as well. Greene began the season in terrific form before injury halted his progress. Still, the right-hander has taken a step forward in his 101.2 innings of work, posting a 2.74 ERA including a complete game shutout in his last start against the Cubs. Now facing a softer matchup, look for Greene to come out firing and shut down this Pirates lineup. I favor the under on the posted total through 5 innings of play.
Best MLB player prop bet: Dylan Cease (SDP) over 1.5 earned runs allowed (-152)
Odds available at Caesars sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -155 odds.
Dylan Cease has an earned run allowed prop of just 1.5 today despite a tough matchup. Cease has made 31 starts so far this season, allowing at least 2 earned runs 23 of those starts. In 15 of those outings, he has surrendered 3 or more earned runs. He did deliver 2 starts this month against the Rockies with 1 earned run allowed each but then lost this prop against the White Sox and Orioles in that stretch.
Milwaukee is a tough, patient, and powerful lineup that should present Cease with some problems. Cease can tend to lose control of the zone from time to time, and even if he isn’t issuing walks, he is more than capable of missing his spot within the zone. It doesn’t take much to allow 2 earned runs against a playoff-caliber lineup, and we could even win this prop with Cease delivering a quality start for his club. At current pricing I see some value on this prop.
