We are deep into the first round of NBA playoff action and the intensity is in full bloom. There are a lot of contrasting storylines heading into Monday’s 3 game slate. The Timberwolves-Nuggets rivalry enters Chapter 5 of this series and Minnesota looks to finish off the Nuggets in the Mile High City without their best player. The Magic curate hosting duties in Orlando and have an opportunity to put their series with the top seed Pistons in a headlock. Headling the slate – a potential sweep. Phoenix looks to avoid a hasty exit when it hosts the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder for Game 4 in the Desert to avoid being swept. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:30 pm ET and set to be aired on Peacock. The other two games on the Monday menu will be aired on NBC at 8:00 PM and 10:30 PM ET, respectively. You can find our NBA picks for all of today’s matchups, along with EVERY GAME through the entire postseason. But for now, here are our expert NBA best bets for today’s 3 playoff games on Monday, April 27.

Pistons vs Magic NBA best bet: Magic +130 (ML)

Orlando has shown through three games that this matchup is far more about style than seeding. Game 3 was the clearest example: a 113–105 win dictated entirely on the Magic’s terms. That means half-court execution, defensive discipline, and winning the small moments that often decide playoff games. Detroit’s physical approach was supposed to be an advantage, but it’s actually played directly into Orlando’s identity.

The Magic have been the more consistent team in this series, particularly when they control tempo and limit transition opportunities. Now back at home again for Game 4, that formula becomes even more effective. Orlando’s defensive intensity and structure tend to elevate in their own building, where they’ve been reliable all season. Detroit being favored here is more about perception than performance. As the higher seed, they’re priced with built-in respect, but the on-court product hasn’t justified that gap. If you removed logos and rankings, this line likely flips. Orlando has already proven it can win this matchup and now it gets the ideal setting to do it again. I am booking the Magic to seize control of the series.

Thunder vs Suns NBA best bet: Suns +10.5 (-110)

Odds available at FanDuel Sporstbook at time of publishing.

Facing a 3–0 deficit, the market is piling on the Thunder here. That makes the Suns overlooked and Phoenix enters this game in a pure desperation spot, which creates betting value. The Suns have been outclassed so far, losing each game by 12 points or more, but that’s exactly why this number stands out. Despite those margins, the spread is now shorter than previous results, a clear indication the market expects a more competitive effort. Bettors however have flocked, I would urge them to be careful.

This is a classic “nothing to lose” scenario. Phoenix is staring at elimination and potential embarrassment on its home floor. That urgency typically translates into maximum effort, tighter rotations, and a more aggressive approach on both ends. Meanwhile, Oklahoma City, with a commanding lead, may not match that same intensity, especially with the series essentially in hand. The Thunder can finish off the Suns in Oklahoma City in Game 5 and not think much of it. But the Suns are fighting for their life and hoping to live to fight another day. Underdogs in this role often flourish. Taking back significant points with desperation translates to often outperforming expectations. The Suns don’t need to win outright to cash the ticket, only compete at a higher level than they’ve shown. Given the circumstances, that’s a reasonable expectation. Taking the points is the value side.

Timberwolves vs Nuggets NBA best bet: Under 221.5 (-110)

Odds available at Caesars Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Minnesota’s path to competing in this game is straightforward: slow it down and defend. Without their star player and chief offensive weapon in Anthony Edwards, the Timberwolves cannot afford to get into an up-tempo exchange with Denver. That reality shapes the entire game script, pushing this matchup toward a more physical, half-court battle even more.

When Minnesota has dictated terms in this series, it has done so through defense. The Timberwolves have held Denver under 100 points twice and limited them to under 115 points in three of the four games played. In those contests where Minnesota has kept the Nuggets under 115, the Wolves have feasted and won all three contests. That’s the blueprint Minnesota will follow if it wants to eliminate the Nuggets once and for all. Denver thrives when its offense flows freely, but when forced into grind-it-out possessions, efficiency drops. Expect Minnesota to emphasize structure, limit transition chances, and make every possession count. That naturally suppresses scoring on both sides. With the Wolves incentivized to control pace and force the Nuggets to play methodically, the conditions align for a tighter, lower-scoring game. The Under fits the expected style.
