Virginia Tech Hokies alternate spread -2.5 over California Bears (-195)
This game has all the makings of a great situational spot for Virginia Tech. After all, the Hokies are coming off a bye week heading into this game, while the California Bears just played a game down to the wire with North Carolina at home, a contest in which the Bears were pretty fortunate to come out on top. Now, California has to travel across multiple time zones and play in a hostile environment at night against a Hokies squad that feels a bit rejuvinated since the firing of Brent Pry. This market has gotten a bit over its skis with the spread, as Virginia Tech currently sits as a 6-point favorite. However, we’ll still back the Hokies at a depressed number to lead off our Same Game Parlay.

Regardless of which team wins this game, the under is my preferred look on the total. For starters, the Virginia Tech offense has been legitimately good when it comes to running the ball, and that success should continue into this game. The Hokies should look to limit possessions, and their defense should also see some success against California true freshman quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, who has been a bit inconsistent of late, registering just 3 touchdowns to 4 interceptions over the past 3 games. This is a game that I project in the upper 40s, so let’s take the couple points of value with the under at the current price.

To close out our Same Game Parlay for this matchup, let’s focus on Kyron Drones to find the end zone for a second straight contest on Friday. Drones has had serious issues with his accuracy both downfield and in the intermediate passing game over the past couple of seasons. However, one area where the Virginia Tech quarterback has always seen success is on the ground. Drones has racked up 5 rushing touchdowns over the last 6 games, to go along with 277 rushing yards on 92 carries this season. Look for the senior quarterback to keep the ball in his hands around the goal line and find paydirt for a 6th time on Saturday.
