College Football ACC Picks & Expert Best Bets: Week 2

College Football picks cover image

The time has come once again where college football fans all over the globe are ready to kick off another season – Welcome to the beginning of a new Atlantic Coast Conference campaign. On Friday, September 6th the second week of ACC college football picks will kick off as Pickswise, the home of free College Football ACC Picks will dive into each game.

William & Mary Tribe vs. Virginia Cavaliers

Against the Spread Pick

This week two matchup will see the William & Mary Tribe take on the Virginia Cavaliers. The Tribe are an FCS school, while the Cavaliers play in the ACC. Both teams won their opening game. Virginia beat Pittsburgh and William & Mary beat Lafayette. The line opened at Virginia -34.5. However, in their last 2 meetings, the Cavaliers have failed to cover the spread against the Tribe. The final scores to these games were 35-29 in 2015 and 28-10 in 2017. I still do not fully trust Virginia even though they handled Pittsburgh pretty easily. This is a game I would probably stay away from, but it would be a very small lean to the Tribe at +34.5

Over Under Pick

The total opened at 45.5 and the over is where I would lean. Virginia scored 30 points against Pittsburgh in week one. William & Mary also scored 30 points in their game. I see the Cavaliers doing most of the scoring, but I still feel that the Tribe could get a score or two. This is another play that I am not very confident about and would bet the over very small.

Western Carolina Catamounts vs. NC State Wolfpack

Against the Spread Pick

The Catamounts from Western Carolina got blown out by Mercer 49-27 in week one. NC State won their game 34-6 over East Carolina. NC State hung 505 total yards on East Carolina. Quarterback, Matthew McKay threw for 308 yards but just one touchdown. For the Catamounts, Tyrie Adams threw for 318 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. However, the Catamounts were quickly buried by Mercer, as they gave up 42 points in the first half. I see the Wolfpack blowing out the Catamounts in this game. NC State is laying 42.5 points in this game, but that is the way I have to lean. The Wolfpack could easily win this game by 50 or more so I will take the Wolfpack as a very small bet to run away with this game.

Over Under Pick

The total is set at 65.5 and I have to lean to the under. The Wolfpack’s defense looked very impressive against East Carolina and now they are facing an inferior team. Western Carolina got torched all game long against Mercer and while I believe they will get lit up again, I do not think NC State will cover the number by themselves. I do not see Western Carolina scoring enough to push the number over the total, so I will take the under with medium confidence.

Richmond Spiders vs. Boston College Eagles

Against The Spread Pick

Richmond got off to a quick start in their season opener against Jacksonville winning the game 38-19, but this week things will be more difficult as they will travel to take on the Boston College Eagles. Boston College is going to be one of the better teams in the ACC this season, and they proved that with a victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies winning the game 35-28. Richmond is an FCS school that will be on the road to take on an FBS school in the Boston College Eagles. Both teams like to run the ball, which should keep this score on the lower end. The Eagles should have no problem winning this game but give me Richmond and the 33.5 points for the winning side.

Over Under Pick

Both schools put up over 30 points in their first game of the season with the Eagles scoring 35 and the Spider scoring 38. With that said, both schools like to run the ball as they both have above average running backs. I look for Boston College to get up early and play clock control with the running game and if things get out of hand and the Spiders have to start passing the ball, I have my doubts that they’ll be able to score much with their passing game. I look for the under 57 to be the play here.

Duke Blue Devils vs. North Carolina A&T Aggies

Against The Spread Pick

In the most watched game last week, the NC A&T Aggies kicked a game-winning field goal against the Elon Phoenix to give themselves their first win of the season. Unfortunately for them, they are going to be taking on a much harder opponent on Saturday in the Duke Blue Devils. For Duke, they were unable to get anything going against Alabama in their tough opener, which is no disgrace, but worryingly for them they were unable to get anything going against even the 2nd and 3rd string Bama defense. It is a close call here as nobody has seen anything from Duke yet, while the Aggies proved they can stay in a game and win it. Take the points here as the Aggies keep this game close enough while Duke figures out how to score.

Over Under Pick

As stated above, I do not expect the Blue Devils to be flying out of the gate and scoring touchdowns left and right. Expect a slow game to start as the under is 4-0 in the Aggies’ last four non-conference games and 4-0 in their last four overall. The Under is the pick here as the Devils win in a low scoring game.

East Kentucky Colonels vs. Louisville Cardinals

Against The Spread Pick

The Eastern Kentucky Colonels are ready for the tough challenge as they head into Louisville to take on the Cardinals. But for fumbles the Cardinals could be aiming for 2-0 but but their chances for a win over Notre Dame in Week 1 slipped out of their grasp – like the ball.  They need to protect the pigskin in this game because that running back duo with freshman Javian Hawkins and sophomore Hassan Hall could be one of the best in the league. In the loss against the Irish, they both combined for 191 yards on 30 carries. As for the Colonels they had three quarterbacks play for them in Week 1. That says a lot about that team. Give me the Cardinals as they do not fumble and cover with ease.

Over Under Pick

Expect a one-sided game in this one. I can only see the Colonels maybe scoring around 7-10 points in this contest, while the Cardinals are going to run up the score left and right. The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Louisville’s last 6 games when playing as the favorite. One of the many reasons why to take the Under here.
