I'm an NFL handicapper here at Pickswise who was raised in a household full of sports fanatics. Since I unfortunately never had LeBron James' jumping ability I wasn't able to make it to the NBA, and chose writing about sports as the next best thing. An avid sports bettor myself, I'm excited to get to write about the industry as it gets set to take off across the country. Buckle up. College football is back in full swing, and last week’s huge slate certainly didn’t disappoint. As we get ready for Week 3, we’ve got tons of great content coming. We of course have free picks on the side and total for all the big games, which you can view in our NCAAF picks tab. Make sure to also catch up on all our analysis articles like this one under our college football news section.

Today, we’re talking teasers. Personally, I much prefer to bet teasers in the NFL, where points are more valuable. But I understand that plenty of people are going to bet college football teasers regardless, so we may as well make sure you’re on the best ones. Let’s dive right into my favorite teasers for Week 3:

Virginia Tech +8.5 (6-point tease from +2.5) over West Virginia

I always like to use my teaser legs in games where points are going to be at a premium. That’s why at 50.5, this game has the highest total of any of the three legs I’m recommending. And 50.5 is still pretty low for college football. Virginia Tech’s defense is a strength, which is why you’ve got to like them to at least keep it within one possession. They held North Carolina’s highflying offense to only 10 points in Week 1. West Virginia lost to Maryland in their only game against real competition so far, so I don’t see them picking up a blowout win here. Virginia Tech has attempted only 47 passes this season, while they have 82 rush attempts. They’re going to be looking to control the clock here, preventing the score from getting run up.

Duke +8.5 (6-point tease from +2.5) over Northwestern

I’m doing the same tease with Duke over Northwestern. The Wildcats are never going to be an explosive offensive team, and they certainly aren’t the kind of team to win blowouts. Northwestern scored only 24 points in their most recent game, and that was against FCS school Indiana State. Even last year when they went 6-1 in the regular season, they scored more than 28 points only once. Wildcats quarterback Hunter Johnson is averaging 5.9 yards per attempt, so if you lean toward Duke but aren’t quite sure if they’ll win outright, a teaser could make a lot of sense.

Utah -2.5 (6-point tease from -8.5) over San Diego State

If there was ever a spot for a college football teaser, it’s here. This game has one of the lower totals you’ll see in college these days at 44.5. Just in general, now is the time to buy low on Utah on the heels of their upset loss to BYU. Utah is another team that’s going to want to be run-first here, so there’s a very good chance they win this game, but only by a field goal or touchdown. San Diego State meanwhile is one of the most lopsided teams in the country. Through 2 games, they’ve attempted only 34 passes. Meanwhile, they’ve rushed the ball a whopping 97 times. They fit the mold of a team that can keep games close, so if you like Utah in this one you might want to consider playing it safe and taking them in a teaser.
