Week 6 opening line CFB best bet: Louisville Cardinals -6.5 (-110) vs Virginia Cavaliers

This is a tough spot for the Cavaliers, who are riding high after a big, double-overtime home win over Florida State on Friday night. While they benefit from an extra day of rest ahead of their trip to Louisville, this is just the second time the Cavaliers will play on the road this season, and they have not had a bye week yet.

Despite the winning effort, Virginia surrendered greater than 500 yards and turned the ball over 3 times against Florida State last week. Those aren’t good traits to have when heading on the road for a conference game, especially when the opposing defense is as good as the Cardinals have been. For reference, Louisville is 6th nationally in standard downs PPA and 3rd nationally in PPA per pass allowed. Moreover, the Cardinals are very opportunistic defensively, boasting a top-40 havoc rate outside of garbage time.

After such an emotional win over Florida State, I’m banking on a hangover spot for Virginia when they hit the road for Louisville this Saturday. Let’s take a piece of this -6.5 now before it pops up to -7, though I would still play this at -7.
