Could the Los Angeles Rams be the next dynasty in the NFL?

Just a few years ago it looked like the Los Angeles Rams had a huge issue. They drafted Jared Goff with the first overall pick and he was coming off a rookie season where they struggled. They were looking for a head coach and it looked like maybe they would be looking for a quarterback too.

Fast forward a couple of years and Jared Goff is looking every part of a good NFL quarterback and now other teams are trying to hire the next Sean McVay to be their head coach, that’s how much success they are having. But what should we think about this success?

Is this Super Bowl run a fluke and now they are going to be back to the Rams that struggle to make the playoffs? Or is this team set up to be a dynasty for years to come and maybe be the team to take out the Patriots from the top spot?

Reasons they can’t be a dynasty

A big reason that people give for the Rams not being able to be a dynasty involves who they signed this offseason and to what type of deals. Guys like Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters will be free agents after next season and are going to need to be paid. Talib might come at a team friendly deal because he is getting older, but Peters is still young and in his prime and he is going to want to be paid like a superstar.

Ndamukong Suh was also brought in as a free agent this offseason and is going to hit the open market after the Super Bowl and unless he takes a payout he is going to be hard to bring back.

It almost appears that they went all in to win the Super Bowl this year and next year, and then will have to regroup but I really don’t think that is case.

Reasons they can be a dynasty

Even though they are going to have players walk there is also more free agents and they have the core of this team locked down.

On the offensive side, Jared Goff and Todd Gurley are long term pieces that can be built around and are players people are going to want to come to play with.

On the defensive side, they have Aaron Donald who is wreaking havoc on defenses and will be a great start to any defense, no matter who is surrounding him.

The biggest reason why this isn’t a one and down dynasty is that of their coach, Sean McVay. He is a players coach and no matter who he has playing he is going to get the most out of them, especially on the offensive side.

McVay also has done it right bringing in Wade Phillips to control the defense and giving him full control of it. Even if Phillips leaves, if McVay can bring in another great defensive coordinator, they are going to be in good shape. With a win on Sunday against the New England Patriots there is no doubt the next great dynasty will be starting it’s run.
