Dallas Stars vs Vegas Golden Knights expert picks

Stars vs Golden Knights money line pick: Stars ML (+106, FanDuel)

The Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights are set to play Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals on Sunday afternoon. Vegas came away with a 4-3 victory in Game 1 and is hoping for more of the same tonight. Dallas wasn’t bad, but couldn’t hold onto an early lead. The Stars won’t want to be down 2-0 heading back home, so there’s a good chance we will see them coming out with a decent amount of urgency and pace to their game.

The key for Dallas today is Jake Oettinger. We know that he’s a good goalie, but his 2.83 GAA and .902 SV% are just not going to cut it at this stage of the playoffs. He has been very good following a loss, though, and can easily steal a game for his team. Vegas has a strong offense and the Stars need to be mindful of that. They need to keep this game within range and push the play when the opportunity arises. Dallas has the 5th-best power play in the postseason, while the Golden Knights are dead last at 62.2%. They are coming off a series win against the Edmonton Oilers, who scored power play goals against everyone this year,  but it still means that they can be exposed. I’ll back Oettinger and the Stars in this one.

Stars vs Golden Knights over/under total goals pick: Under 5.5 (-110)

These teams combined to score 7 goals in Game 1, but that doesn’t mean we are going to see the same result today. Both teams can score goals, but they also have goalies who can stop the puck. Jake Oettinger of the Stars hasn’t been amazing in the playoffs, but he has really strong numbers following a loss. Adin Hill has been exceptional since taking over the of Vegas starting job due to an injury to Laurent Brossoit. He’s posted a 2.34 GAA and a .930 SV%, which is pretty elite at this stage of the playoffs.

Even with so much talent on both sides, both teams are going to want to play tight defense and keep odd-man rushes to a minimum. We also shouldn’t expect to see either team getting a ton of power-play chances. This is likely to be a tight hockey game that could easily finish 3-1 either way.
