The Toronto Blue Jays grabbed a Game 1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers to start the 2025 World Series. Game 2 is set to be a crucial matchup with Los Angeles looking to even things up while Toronto looks to protect their home ground. Let’s dive in and discuss the 1st inning preview for Saturday’s Game 2 matchup.
YRFI/NRFI Best Bet: Blue Jays vs Dodgers – YRFI (+104)
Odds available at FanDuel sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to +100 odds.
Game 1 of the World Series saw 15 combined runs scored with at least 1 run in 5 of 8 full innings played. The YRFI did not win in Game 1, but not for a lack of effort on the Toronto side. Toronto was able to load the bases in the opening frame before Daulton Varsho flew out to center field for the 3rd out. They made Blake Snell work and forced him to locate within the zone. Their elite plate discipline and contact metrics should once again provide Dodgers pitching with problems in Game 2. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is the scheduled starter for the Dodgers in Game 2, and he is a true ace-caliber arm in this sport. Still, Yamamoto was knocked around a bit in the divisional round against the Phillies, allowing 3 earned runs within his 4 innings of work. I don’t necessarily expect Yoshinobu to struggle in this outing, but Toronto is more than capable of striking first if the Dodgers fail to do so in the top of the inning.
The Los Angeles offense will get things started against Kevin Gausman on Saturday. Gausman is set to make his 5th postseason appearance so far for the Blue Jays during this run. The veteran right-hander has 18 innings with 4 earned runs allowed so far in these playoffs, but his toughest matchup to date is tonight. Los Angeles provides a daunting lineup with the top of their order presenting several future hall-of-famers. Shohei Ohtani produced in Game 1 with a home run, and he will hope to keep that production level up for the remainder of the series. Gausman is a very quality starter in this league, but if his splitter is not working at full capacity there will be a ton of his pressure on his fastball. Los Angeles is a tough lineup to face when not on your best stuff, and I lean towards the YRFI in this matchup given current pricing.
