This is the 2nd edition of the Bank of Utah Championship – formerly the Black Desert Championship – at the Black Desert Resort, where Matt McCarty stepped up to take last year’s title on only his 2nd start after graduating from the Korn Ferry Tour. This wide-open layout proved easy pickings for the PGA Tour’s lesser lights last year, and the winner this week will have to spend 4 rounds making a heap of putts. Let’s dive into my golf predictions for this week’s Bank of Utah Championship.

Bank of Utah Championship golf picks and predictions
Bank of Utah Championship best bet: Matt McCarty (+3000)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook and bet365 at time of publishing
Lightning could strike twice for McCarty, who will return to Utah full of confidence after he carded a final-round 60 to share 14th place at the Baycurrent Classic in his most recent PGA Tour start. The Arizona native, who is a superb putter, is well-suited to desert golf, as he demonstrated last year.
Bank of Utah Championship prediction: Michael Thorbjornsen (+1600)
Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing
Michael Thorbjornsen’s claims are similarly obvious, but arguably only tournament favorite Maverick McNealy has a better chance of lifting this title. Thorbjornsen opened with a 67 at Black Desert 12 months ago, before a neck problem forced him to withdraw during the 2nd round. He has since become a regular PGA Tour contender, finishing 4th in the Rocket Mortgage Classic in June and 3rd at the Baycurrent last time out.
Bank of Utah Championship longshot pick: Taylor Montgomery (+7500)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing
The winner will be required to make plenty of putts, and Taylor Montgomery should have no issues in that regard. Based just over the border in Las Vegas, Nevada, Montgomery was in horrendous form when missing the cut in this event last year, but he has been much improved in recent months. After finishing 8th at the ISCO Championship and 12th in the 3M Open, he was a Korn Ferry Tour runner-up in Utah in August, then 6th at the Sanderson Farms on his last start.
