Finishing in the top 50 of the FedEx rankings to reach the BMW Championship is the main goal and one player who currently finds himself inside that mark is Matt Fitzpatrick, who occupies 41st position. It had been a struggle for the Englishman in the 1st half of the season and there were doubts as to whether he would reach the playoffs, but a tied-8th finish at the PGA Championship has given him a new lease of life.
The 30-year-old has really hit his stride in recent weeks, finishing tied-8th at the Rocket Classic before taking a share of 4th place at both the Scottish Open and British Open at Royal Portrush. A tied-8th effort at the Wyndham Championship was another confidence-booster for Fitzpatrick and he will be buoyed heading to TPC Southwind, where he has registered two top-5 finishes and 1 top-10 from 6 efforts.

Chris Gotterup will be making his first competitive appearance at the Memphis course but that shouldn’t put you off siding with him, given he is sparkling form going into this tournament. The 26-year-old landed the Scottish Open title at the Renaissance Club and followed that up with a 3rd place at the British Open before finishing tied-10th on his last outing at the 3M Open.

Another player to note is Austrian Sepp Straka, who is 3rd in the FedEx standings and therefore goes into this tournament without any real pressure on his shoulders. The 32-year-old has won twice on the PGA Tour this season, the most recent victory coming at the Truist Championship in May, and he came close to landing this title in 2022 when losing out to Will Zalatoris in a playoff. Appearing for the first time since the British Open, Straka should be nicely refreshed and he looks capable of picking up a 3rd win of the year, which would further boost his hopes of making Europe’s Ryder Cup team.
