Miami Heat ML over New York Knicks (+184)
The news coming out of New York regarding the injury of Jalen Brunson is relatively good. Even though it’s the same ankle he injured last year and missed 15 games, Brunson appears to have suffered only a Grade 1 sprain this time and the team will re-evaluate him daily moving forward. He is expected to miss Friday’s game against Miami and this is mainly why I have the Heat winning this matchup at MSG.
The Heat have already beaten this team once earlier this season, overcoming 37 points by Brunson. With him out of the way, things should be much easier this time around. Last season, the Knicks’ offensive rating dropped from 120.3 to 116.8 when Brunson didn’t play, and it’ll be interesting to see how they adjust on the fly without him on the roster. The Heat have been on a roll lately, winning 4 of 6 games. They’re also a very reliable 8-4 ATS in their 12 games this season. I feel like the +184 odds on the money line is great value on the Heat.

Norman Powell to score 20+ points (-265)
Powell is one of the main reasons why the Heat have played well in the early going this season. Tyler Herro is yet to play a game while Bam Adebayo has been in and out of the line-up due to a toe injury. That hasn’t stopped Powell from asserting himself offensively – he currently leads the team in scoring averaging 24.8 points per game. His former team, the Clippers, could definitely use him right now, but Powell has made the most out of the opportunity in Miami, and if he continues playing like this, he could be headed to the All-Star Game.
Scoring 20 points should be easy for him here, as he has done this in all but one of the games played this season. The Knicks couldn’t stop him in the first meeting as he went off for 29 and 7 rebounds. Miami plays the fastest pace in the league this year, so look for them to push the tempo here with Powell benefiting.
Karl-Anthony Towns to record a Double-Double (-310)
The absence of Brunson means that Karl-Anthony Towns’ responsibilities on offense will expand. Towns has already been a double-double machine this season, averaging 20.2 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. He has failed to notch a double-double only once against the Milwaukee Bucks, where he had an off shooting night, scoring just 8 points. Thankfully, that performance has been long forgotten and KAT has upped his efficiency and scoring average in November significantly.
Against the Heat, Towns has averaged 21.4 points and 11.3 rebounds per game in the last 8 meetings, while in the first head-to-head duel of the season, he had a monster 15-point and 18-rebound performance. Miami has allowed the 6th-most double-doubles to opposing PFs this season and the 7th-most overall in the league. With no Bam Adebayo for Miami, he should be able to assert his dominance on the boards here.
