Horse Racing picks at Aqueduct race track on Thursday, December 16: Roman Empire will reign

Swiss Skydiver wins the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Racetrack.

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Thursday, including at Aqueduct race track. We are still absolutely on fire with our picks — up 35.8 units over the past 8 days after nailing 13 winners in our horses’ last 27 starts. That gives us a profit of 212.25 units dating back to Aug. 5. Let’s maintain the momentum!

Here are four runners whom we expected to have a leg up on the rest of the competition. It’s time to dive in and discuss these potentially profitable plays.

1:44 pm Aqueduct (Race 3) – Favorite Impulse 20/1

This isn’t a strong contest for the grade and Bruce Grossman’s filly is a huge price given that fact. A daughter of Langfuhr, she’s posted some good figures in her nine defeats thus far, including a recent fifth over six furlongs at Aqueduct, where she was gaining ground quickly in the stretch. On that evidence, she looks well worth another try at the mile trip, and the inside stall should enable her to have the ideal trip.

2:11 pm Aqueduct (Race 4) – Profusion 5/2

A dual winner in his career thus far, he gained the latter of those on his most recent start over track and distance. He turned that $28,000 claimer into a procession and despite this being a tougher grade, he warrants plenty of respect. He remains unexposed after ten starts and with his main rivals being far from consistent, he’s difficult to get away from under Eric Cancel.

3:08 pm Aqueduct (Race 6) – Roman Empire 9/2

Todd Pletcher’s charge arrives on the back of two disappointing runs at Gulfstream and Aqueduct, latterly when forced wide in a $82,000 allowance race. Prior to those, he had placed third in the Sunshine Classic at Gulfstream and had scored at allowance level at the same venue. He takes a big drop in class to contest this race and if he can return to anywhere near his best, he can utilize the inside stall to devastating effect.

4:04 pm Aqueduct (Race 8) – Workingman’s Dude 5/2

A son of Outwork, he’s run to a good standard in three starts thus far for John Terranova. Building on two promising runs at Belmont, he posted a career-best figure when third over seven furlongs at Aqueduct in November. Posting his bid belatedly in the stretch, he should relish stretching out to the mile. If he can post another improved display, he can surely graduate at the fourth attempt under Dylan Davis.
