1:00 pm Churchill Downs (Race 1) – Alberta Sun 5/2
The winner of three of her last four starts with the sole defeat in that spell coming when runner-up in the Manitoba Oaks at Assiniboia in July. The Ministers Wild Cat filly completed a double when taking a claiming contest over six furlongs at this venue by four-and-a-half-lengths last month. Tackles a slightly better contest on this occasion and having led for much of that event she looks capable of employing similar tactics to complete a hat-trick in the opener.
1:30 pm Churchill Downs (Race 2) – Ring Me Darling 2/1
Recorded her second career success when taking a six furlong claiming contest by seven lengths at this venue on her penultimate start. Demonstrated that she can be competitive at a higher level when finishing third behind a highly impressive all the way winner over a mile in an allowance optional claimer here subsequently and she is taken to register a third win in six career starts with Adam Beschizza in the saddle on her return to a claimer.
5:06 pm Churchill Downs (Race 9) – Girl With A Dream 8/5
Brad Cox’s charge debuted with an impressive victory having raced close to the pace in a five furlong maiden special weight at Ellis Park in July and while she disappointed in Grade 1 company when upped markedly in grade in the Spinaway Stakes over seven furlongs at Saratoga she put that effort behind her when placing second in a five runner allowance optional claimer over six-and-one-half-furlongs at Keeneland last month. Looks capable of going one better in this event.
5:36 pm Churchill Downs (Race 10) – Bell’s The One 7/5
Registered her second Grade 2 win of the year when landing the six furlong Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes by a neck over this trip at Keeneland last month. Challenged four wide having been ridden with restraint that day and having won at the top level at this venue in the past she is taken to record career victory number 11 with Corey Lanerie taking the ride following a 48.60 four furlong breeze at this venue earlier this month.
6:06 pm Churchill Downs (Race 11) – Almanzo 3/1
Delivered a promising fourth place finish when contesting a maiden special weight over six furlongs here on debut in September and followed that up with a second place finish upped to seven furlongs in a similar contest at Keeneland the following month. Raced close to the pace at Keeneland and is taken to successfully employ similar tactics with the step up in trip looking likely to suit with Florent Geroux booked to ride for handler Brad Cox.
