Horse Racing picks at Del Mar race track on Friday, November 26: Award Winner for the win

Scott Spieth atop Silverly Enough wins the eighth race of the day at Tampa Bay Downs.

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Friday, including at Del Mar race track. We have been crushing our horse picks for several months now (up 190.85 units dating back to Aug. 5). We also hit a 6/1 winner last Friday, picked three winners in five races on Saturday, and picked two winners out of two races on Sunday, and two winners in three races on Thanksgiving. Let’s maintain the momentum!

Here are four runners whom we expected to have a leg up on the rest of the competition. It’s time to dive in and discuss these potentially profitable plays.

6:03 pm Del Mar (Race 6) – Gerlach’s 5/2

Race 6 at Del Mar is a $25,000 Claiming contest over an extended five furlongs and this one can go to Gerlach’s who was impressive when breaking his maiden tag in a Maiden Claimer here last time out and can back that up with another victory. Doug O’Neill’s gelding finally got his head in front, on his eleventh attempt, but he had been threatening to do that as he was getting more streetwise with racing and comes into this full of confidence so it would not surprise should he win again.

6:33 pm Del Mar (Race 7) – Award Winner 12/1

The $250,000 Grade 2 Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes is Race 7 on Del Mar’s Friday card and a big run is expected from the horse in stall one, Award Winner, who is more than capable of winning this on his day and could take some passing from that inside post. This gelding’s best run of his career was four starts back when he recorded a career best speed figure to win the Grade 2 Charles Whittingham Stakes at Santa Anita and with a similar effort he should go close from what is an ideal draw.

7:03 pm Del Mar (Race 8) – Admirably 3/1

A competitive $72,000 Allowance Optional Claimer over six furlongs is the penultimate race at Del Mar and I like the chances of the horse in the outside stall, Admirably, who won a similar event at Santa Anita a few starts back and has gone well here in the past. If he can run close to his second place finish over this course and distance back in August then he should go well in a race that lacks any real strength in depth.

7:32 pm Del Mar (Race 9) – Twirling Grace 12/1

Twirling Grace has been knocking on the door in Maiden Claiming company at Gulfstream Park this season and she looks to be the value play in this $36,000 Maiden Claiming event which is the ninth and final race at Del Mar. Her prominent style of racing will suit this track perfectly, even more so given the fact that she is drawn down on the rail and she represents huge value at double figure odds in the final race of the evening.
