Horse Racing picks for Parx race track on Saturday, September 25: Flashing Diamond in the rough

Horse racing on the turf at Santa Anita

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Saturday, including at Parx race track. Here are 5 runners whom we think look to be a class above the opposition in their respective races. It’s time to dive in and take a look at some potentially lucrative plays.

12:05 pm Parx (Race 1) – Morning Matcha 2/1

Has demonstrated plenty of ability in four starts to date including when following up three maiden special weight places with a second place finish in the six furlong Finest City Stakes, a race restricted to Pennsylvania-bred fillies and held on the all-weather at Presque Isle Downs. Return to dirt here is no issue having placed three times on the main track in the past and the Central Banker filly is taken to provide jockey Kendrick Carmouche with a winner.

12:32 pm Parx (Race 2) – Flashing Diamond 9/5

The winner of four of her last six starts most recently when taking a starter allowance over five-and-one-half-furlongs at this circuit earlier this month. The extra half-furlong is no issue here having won over further in the past. Has one of the tracks top jockeys booked to ride in Frankie Pennington and she looks up to delivering a 15th victory in a 44 career starts having registered a 1:03.15 five furlong breeze at this venue a week ago.

4:22 pm Parx (Race 10) – Jackie’s Warrior 4/5

Placed at the highest level when runner-up in the Woody Stephens Stakes at Belmont Park in June Steve Asmussen’s charge has won twice since including when registering his first Grade 1 success in finishing a neck clear of his rivals in the seven furlong H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes at the end of last month. Has a wide draw to overcome here but looks a cut above his rivals in this race and can register his eighth career success.

5:02 pm Parx (Race 11) – Clairiere 2/1

Placed in Grade 1 company in each of her last two starts including when finishing one-and-a-half-lengths second to Malathaat in the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga last month. Had previously finished a distant third to today’s rival Maracuja in a small field renewal of the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks at the same venue prior. Didn’t give her running that day and she is taken to reverse that form with Ricardo Santa booked for the ride.

5:49 pm Parx (Race 12) – Hot Rod Charlie 5/2

Disappointed when down the field in finishing seventh in the Grade 1 Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park in July. Had proven himself to be a top performer prior to that placing in two legs of the Triple Crown including when third in the Kentucky Derby at the start of May. Comes into this on the back of a 1:24.20 seven furlong breeze at Santa Anita earlier this month and he can provide Doug O’Neill with a victory in this contest.
