Horse Racing picks for Del Mar on Friday, August 20: Man Friday an apropos bet

Horse Racing on dirt at Santa Anita

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Friday, including at Del Mar race track. We have hit 19 winners in our last 45 races, profiting 23.4 units during this hot stretch. Let’s keep it rolling! Here are 4 runners whom we think look to be a class above the opposition in their respective races. It’s time to dive in and take a look at some potentially lucrative plays.

8:52 pm Del Mar (Race 5) – Man Friday 3/1

Race 5 at Del Mar is an open looking $55,000 Claiming contest over a mile on the turf surface and this one can go to Man Friday who was a good second over course and distance last time out and can go one better here. Michael Maker’s son of American Pharoah is steadily improving as his speed figures suggest and if he can match his latest effort where he was a closing second behind Optimistic Valor then he should go very close.

9:20 pm Del Mar (Race 6) – Stellar Sound 2/1

The most valuable race on Del Mar’s Friday card is the $100,000 Grade 3 Rancho Bernardo Handicap over an extended six furlongs on the dirt and preference is for Stellar Sound who has won twice here and looks to have every opportunity of winning again. She has two third place finishes in Grade 2 and Grade 3 company to her name and comes into this in good form having won an Allowance Optional Claimer here last time out, so all looks set for another good run.

9:48 pm Del Mar (Race 7) – Whooping Jay 4/1

A competitive $74,000 Allowance Optional Claiming event is Race 7 at Del Mar and this one will take some winning, so with that in mind it’s worth siding with Whooping Jay who can make the best of his way home from stall one. He can be forgiven for his latest effort where he was pulled up in a Black Type contest at Santa Anita as there looked to be something amiss that day and if connections have him fit and ready he can add a win to already impressive form figures of 212 at this course.

10:16 Del Mar (Race 8) – Wedding Chapel 6/1

The final race at Del Mar is a $70,000 Maiden Special Weight in which a case can be made for many but none more so than Wedding Chapel who is carrying a low weight due to her jockey’s allowance and can build on a recent debut second at this track. She went off a big price for that run and made the running, albeit four wide throughout, and did very well to finish second so if her jockey Juan Espinoza can get across from stall five then she can lead from start to finish.
