Horse Racing picks for Finger Lakes on Wednesday, July 14: Strike gold with True Gold

Scott Spieth atop Silverly Enough wins the eighth race of the day at Tampa Bay Downs.

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Wednesday, including at Finger Lakes race track. Here are four runners whom we think look to be a class above the opposition in their respective races. Let’s dive in and take a look at some potentially lucrative plays.

3:06 pm Finger Lakes (Race 5) – A Dab Will Do +450

Race 5 at Finger Lakes is a $25,900 Allowance event over six furlongs on the dirt surface and A Dab Will Do, who won over course and distance last time out, can strike again for Paul Barrow and his team. This filly is still lightly raced for a four-year-old as she’s only had the six starts to date with two of those being victories, both of which were at this course. There could be more to come from her as her last two starts have been her best and she can improve past her more experienced rivals in this field.

3:35 pm Finger Lakes (Race 6) – True Gold +250

Charlton Baker’s True Gold is drawn widest of all in gate number six in Race 6 at Finger Lakes but this gelding has won on multiple occasions around here and can do so again. Three of his four wins have been at this course, two of which were in this Allowance grade, and I see no reason why he can’t win again as this race looks weak on paper and it could pay to be drawn wide and away from any early scrimmaging.

4:04 pm Finger Lakes (Race 7) – Irish Valor +350

The penultimate race at Finger Lakes is a $19,400 Starter Optional Claiming contest over an extended mile trip on the dirt and I like the look of Irish Valor who has tons of experience and can put it down to his rivals from the inside stall. Connections have kept this son of Dublin busy throughout his career as he thrives on racing and recent form figures in this grade read 32 so this could be the time to catch him from a perfect draw down on the rail.

4:33 pm Finger Lakes (Race 8) – Discreet Mission +400

A $12,600 Claiming event is the final race at Finger Lakes and this one can go to Discreet Mission who looks to have his ideal conditions here. Two of his career wins have been at this track and grade and this is a weak race so it looks to be a perfect opportunity for him to add to his tally of four lifetime victories. A recent fourth in this company here last month was his first run for eight months so he should come on a good amount fitness wise for that and is the one to beat.
