1:20 pm ET Aqueduct (Race 1) – Gagetown 9/5 (2-star play)

Gagetown showed good form when placing 3rd, beaten 1 3/4 lengths in a 7-furlong allowance optional claimer on a muddy main track at Aqueduct 3 starts back. He was below that form in 2 subsequent starts, including when a well-beaten 7th over 6 furlongs in an allowance optional claimer there last month.

However, he joined the Rob Atras barn following that effort and, having drawn gate 2 today, looks capable of registering his 6th career success following a fair 50.11 4-furlong work at Belmont Park.

1:50 pm ET Aqueduct (Race 2) – Pioneering Spirit 8/5 (2-star play)

Pioneering Spirit came within a head of breaking his maiden when finishing runner-up over an extended mile in a maiden special weight contest at Churchill Downs last May. He has been off the track since a disappointing effort when finishing a well-held 4th at the same venue the following month.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, the son of American Pharoah has been gelded since that effort and can bounce back now he drops to a maiden claiming contest with Joel Rosario booked to ride.

2:55 pm ET Aqueduct (Race 4) – Asymmetric 2/1 (2-star play)

Asymmetric has demonstrated plenty of ability in 3 starts, including when finishing on the board twice as as a 2-year-old in 2021. He made just one appearance as a 3-year-old, winning by a neck in a 6 1/2 furlong maiden special weight contest last June.

He has registered some good morning works in recent weeks, including a 47-second 4-furlong breeze at Belmont Park, and is selected to resume his career with a victory.

4:28 pm ET Aqueduct (Race 7) – Maple Leaf Mel 4/5 (3-star play)

Maple Leaf Mel is unbeaten in 2 starts. The daughter of Cross Traffic made the perfect start to her career when scoring by 5 lengths in a 6-furlong maiden special weight at Saratoga last August. She followed up when stepped up a 16th in distance for a stakes contest on a sloppy track at the same venue just over 2 weeks later.

She looks the pick on form and has advertised her wellbeing with a string of solid work in recent weeks.

5:00 pm ET Aqueduct (Race 8) – Bad Connection 7/2 (2-star play)

Purchased for $65,000 at the 2-year-old in training sales last year, Rudy Rodriguez’s filly Bad Connection demonstrated ability prior to fading when 7 lengths 6th in a 6-furlong $25,000 maiden claiming contest on a sloppy track at Aqueduct last month.

The selection raced close to the pace on that occasion and is expected to have improved for the experience. Manny Franco retains the ride and the daughter of Frosted can help him to improve on his impressive 27% strike-rate (13/121) at this meeting.
