Horse Racing picks for Belmont at the Big A on Saturday, September 24: Cross Border set to strike

Jockey Samy Camacho atop Mattys Express

There is plenty of great horse racing across America on Saturday, including at Aqueduct race track, which is hosting races moved from Belmont due to construction work, with the meeting named Belmont at the Big A. We have been in fine form with our picks for a long time now and we are up +300.84 units with our race selections to our recommended stakes dating back to August 5, 2021. Let’s keep it rolling!

Here are our best bets for today’s action at Aqueduct.

4:46 pm Belmont at Aqueduct (Race 8) – Transactional 5/2 (2-star play)

Race 8 at Belmont At The Big A is a competitive allowance race over a mile and a 16th on the turf and I like the chances of the Chad Brown-trained son of Kingman, Transactional, who was very green but still managed to score in his debut at Saratoga last month.

This superbly bred gelding got loose before the start but managed to get himself together to line up and win that race and, although he is still very raw, he clearly has lots of ability so I wouldn’t want to oppose him.

5:16 pm Belmont at Aqueduct (Race 9) – Best Idea 3/1 (2-star play)

A field of 9 is set to go to post for this $90,000 allowance optional claiming event in which Todd Pletcher holds a strong hand with Montebello and the selection, Best Idea.

Jose Ortiz’s mount has been improving nicely all season. He won in his debut at Aqueduct and has hit the frame in 2 competitive stakes races before rallying to win an allowance at Saratoga last time out. He comes into this in top form.

5:48 pm Belmont at Aqueduct (Race 10) – Cross Border 9/2 (1-star play)

The $125,000 Ashley T. Cole Stakes is a hotly contested affair which features some really nice types over a mile and 1/8th on the turf and one who can go well is Cross Border, who won his only start at this track in 2019 and is dropping back in grade.

This 8-year-old has been campaigning at the top level in recent years, managing to hit the board in Grade 1 company, so it would not be a surprise should he go close in what will be an easier task compared to his recent outings.

6:22 pm Belmont at Aqueduct (Race 11) – Capital Gal 2/1 (2-star play)

George Weaver’s Capital Gal has been running with credit in valuable maiden special weights and this daughter of Constitution will welcome a first try in maiden claiming company.

She has recorded some good speed figures and shown a good level of ability in her 5 starts, so if she can run up to that level then she can win the finale from a perfect draw in stall 5.
