Horse Racing picks for Belmont at the Big A on Thursday, October 5: Cupid's Heart strikes again

Horse racing on the turf at Santa Anita

There is plenty of great horse racing across America on Thursday, including the Belmont at the Big A meeting at Aqueduct race track. We have been in fine form with our picks for a long time now as we are up +181.65 units with our race selections to our recommended stakes dating back to August 5, 2021. Let’s keep it rolling!

Here are our best bets for today’s action at the Belmont at the Big A meeting.

12:35 pm ET Belmont at the Big A (Race 1) – Bento 7/2 (2-star play)

The opening race is a $90,000 Maiden Special Weight for two-year-old fillies and I like Mark Casse’s Bento who will improve a good amount from a debut fourth at Saratoga back in August.

This daughter of Tapit showed up well for a long way before tiring late in the stretch, so with that run under her belt, I can see her taking some catching under top rider Jose Ortiz.

1:40 pm ET Belmont at the Big A (Race 3) – Anna Lucia 8/1 (1-star play)

Race 3 features a field of impeccably bred fillies who are set to line up over a mile and three eighths on the turf course with Tawaret likely to prove tough to beat but one who can go well at a price is Chrisophe Clement’s Anna Lucia.

She was rallying well over a trip just shy of this when finishing fourth at Delaware Park on her second career start and can go well with this step up in distance being sure to suit.

3:50 pm ET Belmont at the Big A (Race 7) – Tenebris 15/1 (1-star play)

This is an open looking Starter Allowance in which a case can be made for a good amount of this field and it can pay to side with Tenebris who is coming back into form and went close in this grade here last time out.

Faith Wilson’s gelding has recorded form figures of 242 from his last three starts at this level and is good enough to have a say in this at double figure odds.

4:22 pm ET Belmont at the Big A (Race 8) – Cupid’s Heart 3/1 (2-star play)

Bruce Levine’s Cupid’s Heart is going to be a warm order for this Allowance Optional Claiming event and it’s clear to see why as she has some impressive form in the book.

Her recent runs at Allowance level have resulted in some good performances, albeit without winning, but she won the last time she was tried at this level and there could be more improvement to come from her.
