Horse Racing picks for Delaware Park race track on Thursday, September 22: Aim high with Azure Sky

On the Dirt

There is plenty of great horse racing across America on Thursday, including at Delaware Park race track. We have been on fire with our picks for a long time now and we are up +314.84 units with our race selections to our recommended stakes dating back to August 5, 2021. Let’s keep it rolling!

Here are our best bets for today’s action at Delaware Park race track.

2:30 pm ET Delaware Park (Race 5) – Gods Glory 5/2 (2-star play)

Race 5 at Delaware Park is a 6-furlong maiden claiming contest for 2-year-olds on the dirt in which trainer Jose Camejo holds a strong hand with two fancied runners, both of which are drawn next to each other in the outside gates. His less experienced gelding, Gods Glory, can come out on top.

This son of Collected, who was a top dirt performer, was slow out of the gates and tight for room throughout on his debut over an extended 5 furlongs on turf last month and he should be much better suited to this test on his second start.

3:00 pm ET Delaware Park (Race 6) – Azure Sky 12/1 (1-star play)

A field of 8 3-year-old geldings is set to go to post for this $33,000 starter optional claiming event over a mile. Azure Sky is one of the longshots in this field but ran with credit the last time he was tried in this grade.

That effort was at Tampa Bay in April and he finished a respectable 4th over an extended mile while looking like he didn’t quite see out the final 16th, so this trip will be ideal and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he goes well at big odds.

3:30 pm ET Delaware Park (Race 7) – Van Dusen 4/1 (2-star play)

The penultimate race at Delaware Park is an open starter optional claimer over an extended 7-furlong trip and I like the chances of the gelding in stall 6, Van Dusen, who was an easy 4 1/2 length winner of a maiden claimer at Colonial Downs last time out.

He showed plenty of early speed to lead throughout on that occasion and, although this will be tougher, he is still improving and remains unexposed so another big run beckons.

4:00 pm ET Delaware Park (Race 8) – Awesome Pal 8/1 (1-star play)

Alexander Martinez’s Awesome Pal has won 8 races in her career, 2 of them at Delaware Park, and this likeable mare can make it 3 straight wins in the finale.

She is in the form of her life having taken an allowance race and an allowance optional claimer on her last 2 starts with a combined winning distance of 4 lengths, so if she turns up in a similar mood then she may take some stopping.
