Horse Racing picks for Gulfstream Park race track on Wednesday, December 7: Drink up with Too Much Vino

1:35 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 4) – Too Much Vino 6/5 (2-star play)

Taken a couple of starts to get the hang of racing but has shown solid form in 2 starts since dropping in grade including when runner-up in a five-and-a-half-furlong maiden claimer at this level last month. Beaten two-and-three-quarter-lengths that day the extra furlong here is no issue having placed second over 7 furlongs in a $16,000 maiden claimer prior. Debuting for a new yard here the daughter of First Dude is taken to provide jockey Chantal Sutherland with a winner.

2:35 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 6) – Akela 9/5 (2-star play)

Performed well when delivering a five-and-a-half-furlong third in a $25,000 maiden claiming contest over five-and-a-half-furlongs on a muddy main track here on debut a month ago. Faded late on that day having tried to make all the running and having shown improvement on previous works when clocking 49.05 for 4 furlongs at Palm Meadows Training Center subsequently and with the drop in grade here in her favor she is selected to get off the mark at the second attempt.

Delivered some solid efforts for his previous handler including when winning by five-and-a-half-lengths over a mile-and-one-sixteenth at this level on a good track on his penultimate start. Went down by a neck over a mile in a similar contest subsequently and the tactically versatile son of Tourist is selected to help trainer Jorge Delgado improve on his 28% strike-rate (10/36) at this meeting following a 47.78 4-furlong breeze here at the end of last month.
