Horse Racing picks for Keeneland and Belmont Park race tracks on Thursday, October 28: Big Bobby tough to beat

Horse racing at Belmont Park

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Thursday, including at Keeneland and Belmont Park race tracks. Here are 4 runners — 2 at each track — that we think look like good value wagers in their respective races. It’s time to dive in and take a look at some potentially lucrative plays.

7:36 pm Keeneland (Race 4) – Copper Town 5/2

Copper Town is a 5-time winner who arrives in excellent form, winning at Belmont Park 2 starts ago in a $60,000 claiming race. He did so in comfortable fashion and although a subsequent second at Belterra was slightly disappointing, it’s forgivable as the winner came from a mile back. He’s now back in claiming company and bar one blip, he’s run well on previous visits to Keeneland. A wider draw isn’t ideal, but he should be able to boss this small field and will be very tough to pass.

8:49 pm Belmont Park (Race 7) – Big Bobby 8/5

Graduating at the second attempt with victory over this track and distance, he’s finished second in 2 subsequent allowance races at Saratoga. Most recently, he found only a heavily-backed favorite too strong, coming clear of the remainder. That bodes well for him and a return to Belmont is in his favor, given that he’s won over track and distance. Very lightly raced, further improvement is likely and he’s going to prove tough to beat.

9:44 pm Keeneland (Race 8) – Vintage Print 7/2

Paulo Lobo’s colt has posted some big figures this year, beaten half a length in a $104,000 allowance optional claimer at Churchill Downs 3 starts ago. Two subsequent runs have seen him contest graded stakes company, where he has acquitted himself well, including a close fourth in the Eddie Read at Del Mar. This is a big drop in grade for him and, still lightly-raced for his age, he should prove too strong at this level.

9:52 pm Belmont Park (Race 9) – Umbria 4/1

After running poorly on debut at Belmont in June, he’s improved markedly since, finishing in the top 3 in 3 subsequent starts in New York. That includes a second at Saratoga, where he lost out by a neck, despite being bumped at the start and having to come from a long way back. Things didn’t drop right for him back at Belmont last time, but this should be run to suit and it would be disappointing if he was unable to play a leading role in this.
