Horse Racing picks for Keeneland on Friday, October 28: Powder River can run fast

Jockey Leslie Mawing atop Highwaytwentyseven (5) wins the second race of the day as the Tampa Bay Downs

There is plenty of great horse racing across America on Friday, including at Keeneland race track. We have been on fire with our picks for a long time now and are up +274.64 units with our race selections to our recommended stakes dating back to August 5, 2021. Let’s keep it rolling!

Here are our best bets for today’s action at Keeneland race track.

1:00 pm ET Keeneland (Race 1) – Mahaamel 8/5 (2-star play)

Mahaamel demonstrated good form as a 3-year-old, winning a Belmont Park maiden special weight on a muddy track and finishing on the board in all 4 starts in allowance company subsequently. He ended his 2021 campaign with a neck 2nd over 6 1/2 furlongs at that track in October.

Gelded subsequently, the son of Into Mischief is taken to score following a below-par 5th when beaten 11 3/4 lengths in an allowance contest over 6 furlongs at Keeneland on his seasonal debut earlier this month.

2:04 pm ET Keeneland (Race 3) – Golden Bandit 2/1 (2-star play)

An April foal, the son of Midnight Lute showed ability when finishing 5 1/4 lengths 5th in a 10-runner 6-furlong maiden special weight contest at Keeneland earlier this month.

He stumbled at the start on that occasion and having delivered a 49.20 4-furlong breeze subsequently, Brad Cox’s charge is selected to break his maiden stepping up half a furlong in distance with jockey Florent Geroux, on board for that debut effort, looking to improve on a 15% strike-rate (10/65) at this meeting.

3:40 pm ET Keeneland (Race 6) – Sunny River 7/5 (2-star play)

Sunny River was first past the post prior to being disqualified and placed 2nd in a mile maiden special weight at Churchill Downs in June. The daughter of Arrogate has finished runner-up on all 3 of her subsequent starts.

She attempted to make all prior to a 1 1/2 length defeat over a mile and 1/16th on her first start at Keeneland just under two weeks ago. She sets the standard on form and looks capable of providing handler Brad Cox and owners Juddmonte Farms with a winner.

4:12 pm ET Keeneland (Race 7) – Key Of Life 8/5 (2-star play)

Key Of Life is improving with racing, breaking her maiden at the second time of asking when drawing 2 1/2 lengths clear of her rivals in a 6-furlong maiden special weight at Churchill Downs in August.

She took the step up to allowance optional claiming company in her stride when delivering a 6 1/4 length victory over this course and distance earlier this month. She registered a triple digit speed figure that day and could complete a hat-trick on her first start in stakes company.

5:16 pm ET Keeneland (Race 9) – Powder River 2/1 (2-star play)

Powder River has demonstrated good placed form of late, including when beaten 3 lengths into 2nd in a mile allowance optional claiming contest at Churchill Downs last month. She advertised her wellbeing with a string of breezes at the same venue subsequently, including a 1:00.40 5-furlong work a week ago.

She has placed on both previous starts at this venue and with the mile and 1/16th distance no issue, the daughter of Mineshaft is selected to record a 3rd win in 16 career starts.
