Horse Racing picks for Keeneland race track on Friday, April 29: Go to war with Goddess

Jockey Leslie Mawing atop Highwaytwentyseven (5) wins the second race of the day as the Tampa Bay Downs

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Friday, including at Keeneland race track. We have been on fire with our picks for a long time now, and are up +280.45 units with our race selections to our recommended stakes dating back to August 5. Let’s keep it rolling!

Here are our best bets for today’s action at Keeneland.

3:36 pm ET Keeneland (Race 7) – Cynwyd 2/1 (2-star play)

Race 7 on Keeneland’s Friday card is a $100,000 Maiden Special Weight over an extended 6 furlongs on the dirt, and it should go to the Wesley Ward-trained Cynwyd, who lost by a nose in his debut at Turfway Park last month. With improvement to come. he can win this.

This son of Speightstown showed blistering speed on his first run, so if John Velazquez can get him across from stall 8 he should win.

4:07 pm ET Keeneland (Race 8) – War Like Goddess 3/5 (3-star play)

William Mott’s War Like Goddess is a classy mare who is a multiple graded stakes winner, and she stands out in the field for the $300,000 Grade 3 Bewitch Stakes at Keeneland, Race 8.

This is her first start since November, but she’s a Grade 1 winner who won this race last year, so if she is anywhere close to her best she should be able to win this.

4:38 pm ET Keeneland (Race 9) – Shadow Matter 9/2 (1-star play)

The penultimate race at Keeneland is a competitive $130,000 Allowance Optional Claiming event for older horses which looks to be a trappy affair on paper. Preference is for the colt in stall 3, Shadow Matter, who broke his maiden tag at this track last season and should come on from a recent 4th at Fair Grounds.

This colt won a similar event at Churchill Downs last November, and was having his first run for a few months at Fair Grounds, so he should come on fitness-wise for that. He can go well under Irad Ortiz Jr.

5:09 pm ET Keeneland (Race 10) – Icarus 12/1 (1-star play)

A field of 13 is set to go to post for the 10th and final race at Keeneland, which is an open-looking $110,000 Allowance over a mile and 3/16ths on the turf. There looks to be a value longshot in Brad Cox’s Icarus.

This lightly-raced son of Arrogate won a Maiden Special Weight at the third time of asking at Turfway Park last time out and he did it in good style, so he may have been overlooked in the finale.
