I have been an active handicapper and content provider covering sports betting for more than a decade. I hail from Canada but am definitely no puck head, preferring to build my bankroll with the NFL, MLB, NBA and NCAAs. Always looking for the underdogs that win outright. They are way more fun to root for too. For Matt Wiesenfeld media enquiries, please email contact@pickswise.com.

I suppose one measure of the NFL’s dominance over sports in America is how much attention fans pay to the NFL draft. As such it is only natural that the fascination evolved into a wagering opportunity. So if you are going to watch and going to wager here are some bets I like. The key is trying to get some value and keep it interesting. Here is how you can make some money while watching the 2019 NFL Draft!

Who Will the Top Overall Pick?

The consensus is that Kyler Murray is going to be the top pick and there is not a lot of value in making that choice. However, if you think there is a chance that Arizona is not going to draft a QB in the first round for the second year in a row then you can make some quick profit by going with Nick Bosa or Quinnen Williams. You could get +450 with either before you finish the neck on your beer.

Who Will Be the Second Pick?

This is another one that can put some money in your pocket pretty quickly. If Murray goes #1 there is a lot of support for either Bosa or Williams here and even Josh Allen. There are a lot of impact defensive players for San Francisco to choose from and unless something really crazy happens it is not going to be Murray if he is not #1. Williams is +500 here and you can get Josh Allen at +700.  If you are not buying the Bosa hype there are some picks to be made.

How Many Player Will be Taken from the SEC in the First Round?

Looking at this prop bet, it lays at 12.5 with the Over being (-120) and Under EVEN for the play. This is an interesting one because in most mocks the top two players are not from this conference so the guys getting the most attention are outside the total. However, there are some mocks where you see most of the top ten from the SEC as they are loaded with defensive players from the likes of Alabama, LSU and Florida. Those are no surprises given what we have seen in past years and in reality it still means that just over a third of the players are coming from the conference that many believe is the best. One correlation is with the quarterbacks as Drew Lock, of Missouri is one of those guys who could be in and or out of the first round depending on how it shake out. If you like him you can go over 2.5 quarterbacks too. Overall I like the over. If there is going to be a sneaky offensive or defensive linemen or DB it could easily come from here. Another one you could win before the end of the first round.

Who Will be the Giants First Round Pick?

Most seem to think that the Giants front office is out to lunch. Drafting Saquon Barkley makes a running back pretty unlikely but this team has so many holes it is hard to predict which way it will will with their top pick. A quarterback would be more of a long term need but there is buzz about Dwayne Haskins while at #6 they could have a number of strong defensive players to choose from. Josh Allen has the physical tools to be another Lawrence Taylor and is getting +1000. He could go to teams from 3-5 for sure but I like the value that they go with a toolsy guy they can get on the field quickly. It will be hard for most to question it either and sadly I think that will matter too. Ed Oliver is also good value at +1000 too.
