Super Bowl LIII features two of the four highest scoring offenses this season in the NFL as the New England Patriots take on the Los Angeles Rams. How will these offenses stack up against the opposing defenses? This article will examine the passing and rushing offenses and how they stack up against the opposing defense. Let’s dive into the Rams vs New England Patriots Offense analysis now.

Patriots Offense

The New England Patriots rank 4th in the NFL in scoring with an average of 28.56 points per game and have averaged 39 points per game in the playoffs this season. This week they will be going against the Los Angeles Rams who rank 19th in the NFL in points allowed per game with 23.83 and are allowing 22.5 points per game in the playoffs.

Tom Brady leads the team in passing in the playoffs with 691 yards for 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions after finishing the regular season with 4,355 yards for 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Sony Michel leads the team in rushing in the playoffs with 242 yards and 5 touchdowns after finishing the regular season with 931 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Julian Edelman leads the team in receiving in the playoffs with 16 receptions for 247 yards and no touchdowns after finishing the regular season with 74 receptions for 850 yards and 6 touchdowns. The Patriots are averaging 131.56 rushing yards per game which ranks 5th in the NFL and will be going up against a Rams defense that is allowing 114.17 rushing yards per game which ranks 15th in the NFL. I look for the Patriots to try to control this game with a rushing attack of Sony Michel and James White.

The Patriots rank 6th in the NFL in passing yards per game with 274.94 passing yards per game while the Rams rank 16th in the NFL with allowing 237.78 passing yards per game. The pass defense could be a factor against the Patriots especially if they can get their pass rush going in this game. Now, let’s take a look at the Rams offense.

Rams Offense

The Los Angeles Rams rank 2nd in the NFL in scoring with 32.39 points per game and are averaging 28 points per game in the playoffs. In the Super Bowl they will be going up against a Patriots defense that ranks 10th in the NFL in points allowed per game with 21.33 and have allowed an average of 29.5 points per game in the playoffs. Jared Goff leads the team in passing in the playoffs with 483 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception after finishing the regular season with 4,688 yards for 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

C.J. Anderson leads the team in rushing in the playoffs with 167 yards and two touchdowns while Todd Gurley led the team in the regular season with 1,251 yards and 17 touchdowns. Brandin Cooks leads the team in receiving in the playoffs with 11 receptions for 172 yards and no touchdowns after finishing the regular season with 80 receptions for 1,204 yards and 5 touchdowns. Los Angeles ranks 5th in the NFL in passing yards per game with 277.33 and will be going up against a Patriots defense that ranked 22nd in the NFL with 250.5 passing yards allowed per game.

This is the key to the match-up as I look for the Patriots to focus in on Gurley and force Goff to beat them if Goff is able to I see him posting huge numbers in this game, but if he isn’t I look for the Patriots to win the game. The Rams are averaging 143.39 rushing yards per game which ranks 3rd in the NFL and will be going up against the 8th ranked rush defense that is allowing 103.56 rushing yards per game. I look for the Patriots to focus in on Gurley in this game, so I don’t see the Rams posting huge numbers even against a defense that is allowing 4.79 yards per rush.
