MLB best bet: Los Angeles Dodgers ML over Milwaukee Brewers (-120)
Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing
The real Dodgers are on display, and this is nothing new. They kind of mess around during the regular season, doing enough to get in the playoffs but not exactly setting the world on fire. Now, it’s on. Los Angeles swept Cincinnati with ease in the Wild Card Series, ousted Philadelphia in a 4-game NLDS and now leads Milwaukee 1-0 in the NLCS after prevailing 2-1 on Monday night.
Expect the Dodgers to stay hot this evening. They have been on this stage time and time again, whereas this is a new experience for the Brewers. The visitors probably should have won by even more in the series opener if not for Max Muncy’s bizarre near-grand slam that turned into a double-play. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is taking the mound for L.A. and comes in with a 2.53 postseason ERA through 2 appearances – this after compiling a 0.79 ERA in his final 5 regular-season starts. All things considered, the Dodgers have great value as just slight favorites.
MLB best bet: Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs (-124)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing
The Brewers are countering with Freddy Peralta. As such, I think the Dodgers will have plenty of guys on base – giving Ohtani more than enough opportunities to pick up some RBIs and runs. Peralta has a 4.66 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 2 playoff appearances. In his most recent outing against the Dodgers on July 19, the right-hander allowed 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks in 5.0 innings.
Ohtani has not done much in these playoffs, but let’s not forget his 2024 NLCS efforts. In 6 contests against the Mets, he delivered 3 multi-hit performances and hit 2 home runs. Ohtani exceeded this 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs quota in 5 of 6 games. Moreover, Ohtani is 3-for-9 lifetime against Peralta with 2 homers.
