For our best bet on Thursday’s NLDS slate, let’s head out west and target the Phillies on the money line in the first 5 innings against the Dodgers. Philadelphia came up short in each of the first 2 games of this series, but that was no fault of its starting pitchers in either game. The strong pitching for the Phillies continued into Game 3, as both Aaron Nola and Ranger Suarez worked very solid outings to force a Game 4 on Thursday. However, what was most encouraging for Rob Thompson’s team was the long awaited emergence of the offense, particularly in the late innings after Dave Roberts decided to punt away the game by leaving in Clayton Kershaw when the left-hander clearly didn’t have anywhere close to his best stuff.

Regardless of how it happened, the Phillies bats finally have some momentum and it could change the entire trajectory of this series. More importantly, Philadelphia gets to send Christopher Sanchez back to the mound following his brilliant performance in Game 1, in which he struck out 8 Dodger hitters over 5.2 excellent innings. We can expect a similar performance from one of the best starters in the game, and assuming Sanchez does his job, the Phillies should be in a good position to hold a lead after 5 innings. After all, Tyler Glasnow is a very solid pitcher, but he’ll be facing an offense that has scored 8 runs in 8 combined innings against him this season.
