The week in Major League Baseball continues with a full 15-game slate on Tuesday. It features Mariners vs Yankees, Dodgers vs Brewers on TBS, Diamondbacks vs Padres and Phillies vs Giants. The Pickswise team has been in fine form so far this season. I’m 45-33-2 record so far in this best bets piece while going 4-for-9 on Same Game Parlays at +481, +632, +439 and +600 odds and 7-5 on YRFI/NRFI picks. Pickswise’s MLB handicapping team on the whole is 90-62-6 on their best bets. Let’s keep it going as we get into my MLB best bets of the day! Also, don’t forget to check out our MLB picks for EVERY GAME on Tuesday’s slate.

MLB best bet: Tampa Bay Rays F5 +0.5 over Detroit Tigers (-135)

Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Jack Flaherty is taking the mound on Tuesday, and that is not good news for the Tigers. They have lost Flaherty’s last 4 starts by margins of 10, 6, 3 and 5 runs. For the season, the right-hander is 5-9 with a 4.84 ERA. He compiled a 6.84 ERA in 5 June appearances. Flaherty just faced Tampa Bay on June 21, when he got torched for 8 earned runs on 6 hits and 3 walks in only 2.1 innings of work.

The Rays are countering with Ryan Pepiot, who is sporting a 3.34 ERA and 1.15 WHIP to go along with 101 strikeouts compared to 33 walks in 102.1 innings. Pepiot went up against Detroit about 3 weeks ago and fired 5.0 innings of 3-hit, 1-run baseball. Tampa Bay has won 3 of the righty’s last 4 starts and those 3 wins have come by an average of 4 runs. It is true that the Tigers are playing better baseball overall, but I can’t look past the pitching matchup. The Rays at worst should be tied through 5 innings before the starting pitchers exit – or, potentially, having already sent Flaherty to the exits.

MLB best bet: San Diego Padres ML over Arizona Diamondback (-115)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.

The Padres are a modest 6 games over .500, but they are 11 games over .500 at home (27-16). More success at Petco Park should come with Nick Pivetta toeing the rubber on Tuesday. Pivetta is 9-2 with a 3.25 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 107 strikeouts compared to just 23 walks in 97.0 innings. The right-hander befuddled Arizona with 2 runs and 2 hits allowed in addition to 9 strikeouts and 1 walk during an 8-2 victory on June 15.

Arizona has lost 4 of its last 6 contests. Although Merrill Kelly is a solid starter, those woes could continue. Fernando Tatis Jr. is 10-for-28 lifetime against Kelly with 4 home runs and a double; Luis Arraez is 4-for-11 with a triple and 3 doubles; Jackson Merrill is 2-for-3 with a double. It’s generally a wise idea to back the Padres at home, and today’s matchup with the Snakes is no exception.
